What We Offer

The Principal Integration Engineer provides enterprise‑level technical leadership for complex HL7 and FHIR interoperability solutions across healthcare systems. This role is a senior individual contributor position with no direct people management responsibility, focused on designing and delivering scalable, secure, and high‑performing integrations.

The Principal Integration Engineer partners closely with architects, product teams, and engineering leadership to translate integration strategy and architecture into reliable implementations, while mentoring engineers and setting integration best practices across the organization.

Schedule: 8:00AM - 5:00PM (On call support required, as needed).

Department: Enterprise Technology Services- Data Services

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the technical lead for complex enterprise healthcare integrations using HL7 v2, HL7 v3, FHIR, and related interoperability standards
  • Design, build, and optimize end‑to‑end integration solutions across clinical, operational, and third‑party healthcare systems
  • Translate enterprise architecture and integration patterns into scalable, maintainable, production‑ready implementations
  • Drive integration performance, reliability, observability, and security best practices
  • Provide technical mentorship and guidance to integration and platform engineers (no direct line management)
  • Collaborate with architects, product managers, and stakeholders to define integration strategy, sequencing, and technical approach
  • Establish and enforce integration standards, documentation, and governance
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex integration issues across distributed systems
  • Evaluate and influence tooling, frameworks, and platforms related to interoperability and integration middleware
  • Ensure compliance with healthcare regulatory and data‑exchange requirements (e.g., HIPAA, interoperability rules)

What We're Looking For

  • Education: 2 Year / Associate Degree, required. Computer Science or Computer Information Systems. 4 Year / Bachelors Degree, preferred. Computer Science or Computer Information Systems.
  • Experience: 8 years in healthcare integration experience including HL7 interface development and FHIR APIs with responsibilities including implementation, technical troubleshooting, customer support and problem solving, required.
  • Licensure/Certification: Epic Bridges, required. InterSystems IRIS Professional, preferred. HealthShare Health Connect Specialist, preferred.
  • Additional Skills (required):
  • Deep expertise with in-depth understanding of integrations using HL7 or FHIR standards, including design, development, testing, deployment, and management.
  • Proficient with programming and logic
  • Proficient with XML, JSON, HL7 file formats
  • Knowledge of CI/CD tools/processes to deploy containerized application
  • Seeing through deliverables from conception to finished product.
  • Understanding of Healthcare industry standards, HIPAA privacy and security rules.
  • Experience with Agile software principles and developed software in a DevSecOps environment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot failures and performing root cause analysis to identify deficiencies in data and/or processes.
  • Team oriented with strong interpersonal and communication skills. Excellent prioritization skills
