Description

Principal GCP Architect (Cloud Infrastructure)
Location: Bridgewater NJ or Plano, TX (Hybrid)
Fulltime – Salary ($150K PA) Don't stop profiles on salary
Indent: PSL308535-1-5

Role Overview:
  • Lead architecture design & delivery of robust Google Cloud Platform (GCP) infrastructure solutions, ensuring scalability, security, and high availability.
  • Own end-to-end infrastructure implementation, from requirements and solution design (HLD/LLD) to hands-on build, deployment, and production cutover.
  • Architect enterprise-grade GCP environments, including network topology (VPCs, subnets, peering), multi-project landing zones, and secure foundation services.
  • Drive cloud migrations by assessing existing systems and leading the transition of on-prem or other cloud workloads onto GCP with minimal downtime.
  • Implement best practices for reliability (disaster recovery, backup, monitoring) and cost optimization, aligning designs with SRE principles.
  • Ensure security & compliance by embedding IAM governance, encryption, and policy controls into all infrastructure designs.
  • Provide technical leadership to engineering teams, mentoring architects and engineers in GCP technologies and guiding them through delivery challenges.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with developers, DevOps, and project managers to integrate infrastructure with application pipelines and delivery schedules.
  • Manage stakeholder expectations by clearly communicating architecture decisions, trade-offs, and progress to both technical teams and business leaders.
  • Continually improve cloud infrastructure standards and frameworks, staying updated on GCP innovations and evolving industry best practices.

Skills & Technical Competency Requirements:
  • GCP Infrastructure Expertise: 12–15 years in IT with deep Google Cloud architecture experience – proficient in designing compute, storage, and networking architectures on GCP.
  • Networking & Connectivity: Strong knowledge of VPC networks, subnets, routing, hybrid connectivity (VPN, Interconnect), load balancing, and firewall configurations for enterprise GCP deployments.
  • Security & IAM: In-depth understanding of cloud security best practices – design of secure networks, Identity and Access Management (IAM) policies, service accounts, keys, VPC Service Controls, and encryption for compliant solutions.
  • Landing Zones & Org Setup: Hands-on experience setting up GCP landing zones (multi-project structure, folder hierarchy, org policies) to establish governance, environment isolation, and baseline security for new cloud environments.
  • Cloud Migration & Modernization: Proven ability to plan and execute application/infrastructure migrations to GCP, including assessment of on-prem systems, choosing migration approaches, and leveraging GCP services for modernization.
  • Reliability & DR: Familiarity with SRE principles and designing for reliability – multi-zone/multi-region architectures, backup/restore strategies, disaster recovery planning, and implementing SLAs/SLOs for critical workloads.
  • Automation & DevOps: Strong skills in Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Deployment Manager) to automate provisioning of GCP resources, and experience integrating with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps toolchains for smooth deployments.
  • Kubernetes & Services: Working knowledge of containerization/orchestration (GKE) and GCP managed services (Cloud SQL, BigQuery, Pub/Sub, etc.) to make informed architecture decisions for scalable solutions.
  • Multi-Cloud & Hybrid: Exposure to multi-cloud or hybrid cloud architectures – understanding how GCP integrates with on-premises or other cloud providers (network integration, identity federation) for enterprise scenarios.
  • Performance & Cost Optimization: Ability to design cost-efficient and performance-optimized cloud solutions – right-sizing resources, using auto-scaling, optimizing spend with committed use contracts, and monitoring usage.

Communication & Stakeholder Management Requirements:
  • Leadership Communication: Excellent communication skills to articulate complex cloud architectures and roadmaps to senior stakeholders, project teams, and client executives in clear, business-aligned terms.
  • Client Engagement: Proven experience in customer-facing roles – comfortable engaging with client architects and IT leadership to gather requirements, present solutions, and address concerns throughout delivery.
  • Documentation & Presentation: Strong ability to produce clear documentation (architecture diagrams, design specs, runbooks) and present technical concepts and status updates to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Collaboration: Demonstrated collaboration and team leadership, working closely with cross-functional teams (developers, operations, security, PMs) to ensure alignment and collective ownership of solution delivery.
  • Mentoring & Guidance: Act as a technical mentor and advisor, guiding teams through challenges, fostering knowledge-sharing, and instilling best practices in cloud infrastructure and DevOps culture.
  • Stakeholder Management: Adept at managing expectations and priorities of multiple stakeholders – balancing scope, timeline, and technical constraints while maintaining transparency and trust across all parties.
