Position Specific Description

We are seeking a technically strong and strategic Principal Engineer of Integrated System Planning to support long-term system resource planning. This role centers on advanced modeling and analysis including load forecasting, capacity planning and resource adequacy assessments which requires proficiency with production cost modeling tools such as PLEXOS, and Aurora, and transmission network modeling and analysis and capacity expansion planning tools such as PSSE and PSLF. In addition to deep technical and analytical responsibilities, the role is also public-facing, requiring strong communication skills to engage effectively with regulators and public service commissions. A background in engineering, economics, or a related field is preferred, along with demonstrated leadership experience guiding high-performing technical teams.

This job is responsible for directing and managing the integrated transmission planning efforts for FPL including the development and execution of long-term resource and transmission planning strategies to ensure a reliable, cost-effective, and forward-looking electric system. This role is responsible for synthesizing load forecasting, resource adequacy, and transmission planning into a cohesive planning framework that supports rapid load growth, evolving generation portfolios, reliability and resilience improvement, and emerging customer demands such as data centers and electrification.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop cross-functional Integrated System Planning strategy by developing and implementing a framework that integrates load forecasting and proactive economic development, generation expansion and resource diversification, and transmission reliability and resilience planning

  • Perform advanced modeling and analytics including production cost modeling in tools like PLEXOS and/or Aurora to evaluate resource portfolios under multiple scenarios, as well as capacity expansion modeling in tools like PSSE and/or PSLF to assess grid reliability, resource deliverability, and Identify optimized solutions across resources and grid needs

  • Develop scenario plans and stress-test assumptions including large load growth such as data centers, AI and industrial electrification, extreme weather cases, and inform solutions that include economic, policy and technology levers

  • Integrate transmission and generation planning and strategy to optimize system performance, resource adequacy and cost-effective integration of large-loads, renewables, and reliability and resilience investments

  • Identify and propose solutions to manage, assess, and mitigate risk assessment and support executive decision making

  • Support site permitting, licensing, certification, regulatory proceedings and rate case proceedings for FPL including preparation, writing testimony, and responding to interrogatories

  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned
