Job Summary
We are seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer for our office in Billings, Montana, to lead electrical engineering delivery across a portfolio of projects. In this role, you will provide advanced electrical engineering services, offering technical leadership, oversight, and supervision within the electrical engineering team.

Responsibilities
- Manage a team of electrical engineers and designers, overseeing their work on oil, gas, and chemical projects.
- Plan, organize, and direct engineering work, ensuring on-time completion, safety in design, and quality outcomes from conception to completion.
- Collaborate with project management, clients, and other disciplines to meet project objectives. May lead one or more projects while providing guidance for other lead engineers within the program.
- Maintain relationships with project management and clients to ensure satisfaction with the quality and progress of the project.
- Communicate effectively with the team and management, demonstrating strong leadership and problem-solving skills. Foster a positive work environment, encouraging team growth and collaboration to achieve common goals.
- Deliver electrical engineering services that meet client and applicable statutory and regulatory specifications, on time and within budget.
- Initiate, manage, and, if required, supervise electrical engineering project requirements.
- Perform electrical engineering services such as participating in relevant meetings, preparing progress reports, and following required checking procedures.
- Ensure the project scope is clear and that changes comply with project change management processes.
- Provide assistance and advice during procurement, construction, and commissioning activities, including writing requisitions, conducting technical bid evaluations, and writing purchase orders.
- If required, act as the electrical engineering lead on specific projects.
- Proactively resolve any discrepancies between client and customer requirements.
- Stay updated with the latest developments and technical innovations in electrical engineering.
- Assist and support junior personnel within the electrical engineering team, if required.
- Communicate effectively with the electrical engineering team, other interfacing disciplines, and project stakeholders, including the customer.
- Identify issues and problems, develop appropriate solutions, and seek assistance when required.
Qualifications
Technical/Industry Experience and Qualifications Requirements:
- Excellent technical and practical engineering skills with the ability to consistently deliver quality, accurate, and timely work.
- Strong knowledge of the fundamental requirements of electrical engineering and the basic requirements of other engineering fields.
- Comprehensive knowledge of applicable local and international standards and statutory and regulatory specifications.
- Competent use of relevant software such as MS Office Suite and electrical engineering-specific software, including ETAP and SPL.
- Experience in the development and design of MV and LV electrical distribution systems, equipment selection, protective relay selection, power management system configuration, and interface management.
- Ability to perform and review power systems studies and protective device settings.
- Extensive technical and practical experience in electrical engineering in similar industries, including experience in multi-disciplinary projects and teams.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
Education – Qualifications, Accreditation, Training:
- Required: A recognized and relevant BS or MS degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Preferred: Relevant postgraduate qualifications in engineering, management, project management, or supervisory qualifications or equivalent.
- 12 plus years' experience in the oil and gas industry.
- Experience with software such as MS Office Suite and electrical engineering-specific software, including ETAP and SPL.
- Development and design of electrical distribution systems, equipment selection, protective relay selection, and power management system configuration.
- Professional Engineer (PE) status in the US.
