Principal Data Science/AI Product Manager
Overview
Client is seeking a Principal Data Science/AI Product Manager to lead the strategy, development, and delivery of AI/ML product capabilities that support customer engagement and business decision-making across Commercial, Medical, and Government Affairs functions.
This role partners with Data Science, Engineering, IT, and Product leadership teams to define AI product vision, develop roadmaps, and deliver intelligent solutions that enable proactive decision-making, automation, and personalized customer experiences. The position owns the AI product lifecycle from ideation and strategy through deployment, optimization, and governance.
Core Responsibilities
• Drive AI/ML product vision and strategy across classical machine learning and Generative AI capabilities supporting business use cases throughout the customer journey.
• Partner with Data Science, Informatics/IT, Commercial Strategy, and Product leadership to define roadmaps, prioritize initiatives, and maintain a stack-ranked product backlog.
• Develop and manage AI product roadmaps using user research, market trends, business value assessments, and analytics insights.
• Gather and analyze user feedback, usage data, UAT results, and model performance metrics to define requirements and continuously improve AI capabilities.
• Support the ideation, development, and launch of AI/ML-driven features that enable next-best actions, intelligent automation, and personalized recommendations.
• Communicate product value, priorities, and progress to stakeholders while balancing business objectives, user needs, and technical feasibility.
• Build business cases for new and enhanced AI/ML capabilities in partnership with product and technical leadership.
• Identify emerging customer needs and incorporate AI/ML capabilities into digital platforms supporting enterprise transformation initiatives.
• Manage external consulting partners to ensure delivery of scalable, high-quality, and ethical AI solutions integrated with enterprise systems.
• Coordinate across business, IT, and product teams to support responsible AI governance and enterprise-scale outcomes.
• Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and company policies.
Essential Qualifications, Skills, and Technologies
• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Data Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• 8+ years of combined experience in product management, data science, AI, software development, or related disciplines.
• Hands-on experience with modern and classical AI and machine learning techniques, including Deep Learning, Natural Language Processing (NLP), and Generative AI.
• Proficiency in at least one industry-standard programming language such as Python, R, Scala, or SQL.
• Experience creating detailed Product Requirements Documents (PRDs) and utilizing Agile methodologies to deliver AI/ML product capabilities focused on user needs and measurable business outcomes.
• Experience owning the complete AI or Data Science product lifecycle, including strategy, ideation, execution, launch, governance, optimization, and performance measurement.
• Proven experience defining and driving enterprise-level AI/ML product vision and strategy for transformational digital initiatives.
• Experience engaging, influencing, and communicating effectively with senior leadership and executive stakeholders.
• Experience managing complex, multi-team product roadmaps and integrating AI/ML initiatives across multiple business functions.
• Experience leading experimentation efforts and leveraging data-driven insights to drive product innovation.
• Experience researching AI/ML industry trends and incorporating findings into product strategy and roadmap planning.
• Ability to create detailed technical product specifications and communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Strong understanding of Agile methodologies, including Scrum and Kanban.
• Knowledge of enterprise technology architectures, including SaaS, PaaS, and IaaS solutions.
• Relevant certifications in product management, machine learning, data science, or related disciplines.
Preferred Skills or Experience
• Advanced degree such as an M.S., MBA, or related field with specialization in AI, Data Science, or Product Management.
• Experience within healthcare, pharmaceutical, or other highly regulated industries.
• Demonstrated experience mentoring and coaching cross-functional teams.
• Deep expertise in product management with a track record of innovating and transforming digital product capabilities.
• Experience with citizen data science platforms, automated analytics tools, and collaborative modeling environments.
• Familiarity with performance monitoring, platform scalability strategies, and cost optimization practices.
• Hands-on experience with user research and design-thinking methodologies to improve product usability and effectiveness.
