The Opportunity
AlignityX is partnering with a leading enterprise technology organization to identify a Principal Consultant, Technical to join its Public Sector consulting organization in McLean, Virginia.
This opportunity is designed for a highly experienced technical consultant who wants to remain close to the technology while having greater influence over solution architecture, complex delivery, technical direction, and customer outcomes.
As a Principal Consultant, you will be trusted with some of the organization’s most complex customer challenges. You will work directly with customers and technical teams to understand the problem beneath the requirements, shape the right solution, navigate critical technical decisions, and lead successful implementations from strategy through execution.
This is not simply a delivery role. Your technical judgment will help determine what gets built and how.
What You’ll Do
Lead the technical strategy and delivery of complex enterprise implementations
Serve as a trusted technical advisor to customers and internal stakeholders
Translate complex business requirements into scalable, maintainable technical solutions
Lead solution architecture and application design decisions
Remain hands-on with technology throughout the implementation lifecycle
Design and guide integrations, APIs, data models, application architecture, and enterprise system connectivity
Identify technical risks and develop practical solutions to complex implementation challenges
Lead technical discovery sessions and architecture discussions with customers
Guide projects through requirements, design, development, testing, deployment, and optimization
Partner closely with customer leadership, technical teams, and business stakeholders
Provide technical leadership and mentorship to consultants and delivery teams
Establish and reinforce technical best practices across engagements
Help customers develop the knowledge and capabilities needed to successfully own and expand their solutions
Influence broader delivery practices through lessons learned across complex customer environments
What We’re Looking For
We are looking for someone who combines significant technical depth with the ability to influence people, solutions, and outcomes.
Successful candidates will bring:
Significant experience in technical consulting, enterprise software implementation, solution architecture, or a similar client-facing technical environment
A track record of leading complex enterprise technology implementations
Strong application architecture and solution design capabilities
Experience with APIs, system integrations, data modeling, relational databases, and enterprise applications
Strong understanding of modern application development concepts and practices
Experience working in Agile or iterative delivery environments
Ability to diagnose complex technical problems and develop thoughtful, scalable solutions
Strong executive and client-facing communication skills
Ability to translate between business requirements and technical architecture
Experience influencing technical decisions across customers and multidisciplinary teams
Demonstrated ability to mentor and elevate other technical professionals
Comfort operating independently in ambiguous or highly complex customer environments
Experience with low-code platforms, business process management (BPM), workflow automation, digital transformation, or enterprise application platforms is highly relevant.
Direct experience with the specific platform is valuable, but we are equally interested in accomplished technical consultants whose experience comes from adjacent enterprise technology environments.
What Sets This Role Apart
At the Principal level, you are not simply executing against someone else’s technical direction.
You are helping establish it.
The right person can walk into a complex customer environment, quickly understand the technical and business landscape, identify what matters most, and bring clarity to difficult decisions.
You can move naturally between architecture discussions, technical problem-solving, customer conversations, and mentoring others. You know when to go deep, when to challenge an assumption, and when to simplify.
Most importantly, you still want to be close to the technology.
This is an opportunity to gain greater influence without becoming less technical.
