Shape the future of the grid
Step into a principal-level role guiding multiple utility-scale battery energy storage deployments. You will serve as the technical authority for electrical design, system integration, and grid interconnection—ensuring each project is delivered safely, on schedule, and in full compliance with utility and regulatory standards.
A day in the life
- Kick off with a review of single-line diagrams, protection coordination, and grounding/earthing plans for active projects.
- Partner with internal utility stakeholders, EPCs, OEMs, and consultants to align on interconnection milestones and SCADA/EMS data and controls.
- Identify technical risks early and drive mitigation plans that keep engineering, procurement, and construction phases on track.
- Support field teams through construction and commissioning, leading technical decisions that enable safe energization and performance validation.
- Guide project handoff to operations with complete documentation and clear technical rationale.
What you will lead
- Electrical design oversight across utility-scale BESS programs, including one-lines, protection schemes, and grounding.
- SCADA/EMS integration planning and verification for monitoring, controls, and alarms.
- Interconnection deliverables and compliance with utility standards and applicable codes.
- Construction, commissioning, and performance testing support through operational turnover.
- Technical risk identification and resolution throughout the project lifecycle.
Must-haves
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field.
- 8+ years of electrical engineering experience with direct involvement in Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
- Prior experience working for an electric utility (required).
- Demonstrated leadership of multiple large-scale projects from design through commissioning.
Preferred qualifications
- Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- Background in utility-scale renewable integration (solar + storage, wind + storage).
- Working knowledge of UL 9540 / 9540A, NFPA 855, IEEE 1547, and NEC Article 706.
