Principal Applications Engineer – Mass Spectrometry
Location: Milpitas, California (100% Onsite)
Employment Type: Full-Time
Travel: Up to 30% Domestic & International

The Principal Applications Engineer will lead customer application development around next-generation Mass Spectrometry solutions supporting Semiconductor Manufacturing. This role partners closely with Engineering, Product Management, Sales, Marketing, and Customers to develop application-specific solutions, support semiconductor evaluations, perform customer demonstrations, and contribute to future product roadmaps.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop application-specific Mass Spectrometry solutions.
  • Support Semiconductor OEM and Fab evaluations.
  • Configure, calibrate, validate, and test analytical instruments.
  • Perform onsite installation, debugging, and performance analysis.
  • Deliver customer demonstrations and technical presentations.
  • Conduct operational training for customers.
  • Analyze customer samples and prepare technical reports.
  • Support new product introductions and product roadmap planning.
  • Work closely with Engineering, Sales, Marketing, and Product teams.
  • Build strong customer relationships through technical leadership.
  • Support semiconductor process monitoring applications.
  • Contribute to next-generation product roadmap development.
  • Travel up to 30% domestically and internationally.

Required Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Physics, Chemistry, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline.
  • 2–6 years of Applications Engineering or Applications Scientist experience.
  • Hands-on experience with Mass Spectrometry-based solutions.

Experience with analytical instrumentation including:
  • Mass Spectrometers
  • Gas Analyzers

Experience with Mass Spectrometric Residual Gas Analysis (RGA).

Familiarity with Semiconductor Manufacturing processes including:
  • Etch
  • CVD
  • ALD
  • Experience configuring, calibrating, validating, and troubleshooting analytical instruments.
  • Strong customer-facing presentation and product demonstration experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Self-motivated with strong customer engagement skills.
  • Willingness to travel up to 30%.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of PLC hardware.
  • Python scripting.
  • LabVIEW.
  • Semiconductor process monitoring.
  • Product Introduction (NPI).
  • Prototype evaluation.
  • System-level debugging.
  • Product roadmap development.
  • Collaborative team environment experience.
