The Edge Transport & Firewall NMC Team is seeking an experienced, high-performing Principal Engineer to lead the operational integrity and technical strategy for Verizon's OTNGN, eNSE, VCP, and Core Enterprise Edge Platforms.
In this 24x7, high-visibility environment, you will serve as one of the primary technical authorities responsible for keeping our Voice and Data Networks resilient, secure, and highly available. As a Technical Lead, your focus goes beyond standard operational maintenance—you will drive triage for large-scale enterprise outages, solve complex protocol-level issues, spearhead network automation, and systematically eliminate failure points before they impact customers.
High-Severity Incident Response: Serve as the top-tier technical lead for major, high-impact network events; lead cross-functional troubleshooting bridges to keep teams focused, efficient, and aligned on fast resolution.
Deep Network Triage & Remediation: Perform complex fault isolation, root cause analysis, and performance tuning across enterprise routing, switching, edge firewalls, and load balancing infrastructure.
Executive Communication: Translate complex technical issues into clear, concise executive summaries and real-time updates for leadership during critical incidents.
Network Automation & Analytics: Write scripts and build automation tools to detect, isolate, and auto-remediate known network anomalies and recurring faults.
Architecture & Vendor Collaboration: Partner directly with Verizon design/planning teams to recommend architecture updates and collaborate with major equipment vendors to identify and resolve critical software/hardware bugs.
Mentorship & Process Improvement: Support, guide, and upskill fellow operations engineers, driving standardized operational best practices across the organization.
Escalation Coverage: Act as the technical escalation point for critical issues outside standard hours as business needs demand.
What we're looking for...
You'll need to have:
Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
Six or more years of relevant experience required, demonstrated through one or a combination of work and/or military experience, or specialized training.

Experience in writing automation using programming or scripting languages (Python, Bash, C/C++, REST APIs).
Knowledge of routing protocols and network virtualization technologies (MPLS, BGP, OSPF, IS-IS, SR, SDN/NFV, VCP).
Even better if you have:
Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or Business.
Certifications in (CCIE, CCNP, JNCIE, or equivalent).
Experience in enterprise network engineering, edge transport operations, or high-availability enterprise network environments.
Experience in writing automation using programming or scripting languages (Python, Bash, C/C++, REST APIs).
Experience with written and verbal communication skills with the ability to summarize technical detail for C-level leadership.
Experience in implementing network telemetry and automated fault-remediation workflows.
Experience with vendor management, including driving bug fixes and engineering escalations with external hardware/software vendors.
Experience with leading cross-functional troubleshooting bridges for high-severity network outages.
Knowledge of enterprise network architectures, end-to-end packet flow/connection correlation, edge security, and load balancing.
Knowledge of IP telecommunication equipment, wireless network architectures, and mobile core interconnectivity.
