    Location: Bellevue, WA
    Type: Contract
    Work Model: Remote – offsite

    Overview

    System One is seeking a highly capable and motivated Primary Heat Transfer Component Engineer to support the development of advanced nuclear power systems. This position will interface with engineering teams, project partners, and suppliers supporting the design and manufacture of primary and intermediate sodium pumps or intermediate shell-and-tube heat exchangers.

    The successful candidate will oversee supplier activities, coordinate multidisciplinary engineering efforts, and ensure component designs meet technical, quality, contractual, and scheduling requirements. This role requires extensive experience with rotating machinery or heat exchangers, supplier coordination, and the complete hardware development lifecycle.

    Responsibilities

    • Interface with suppliers on the development of Primary and Intermediate Sodium Pumps or the Intermediate Heat Exchanger.
    • Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering activities to meet scope, technical performance, and schedule expectations.
    • Provide oversight to partners and subcontractors developing mechanical component designs for the Natrium reactor.
    • Manage technical reviews and ensure timely delivery of data and other project deliverables.
    • Coordinate technical interfaces and handoffs between partners, and interfacing project teams.
    • Identify, communicate, and resolve emerging technical issues and risks, keeping Engineering and Project Management informed.
    • Ensure application of design codes such as ASME, ANS, ASTM, IEEE, NFPA, etc., into the design of plant components.
    • Support planning efforts and maintain schedule adherence for design activities and overall plant design delivery.
    • Create and manage drawing packages, including P&IDs, 3D models, and system interface drawings.
    • Establish and maintain component requirements and specifications, such as Engineering Design Specifications.
    • Propose and oversee testing programs for plant component qualification.
    • Generate design packages including calculations, reports, drawings, and specifications.
    • Learn and apply specialized skills as needed in this dynamic environment.

    Requirements

    • B.S. in Mechanical or related discipline from an accredited university.
    • 10+ years of experience with proven mechanical systems skills.
    • Experience with component design and manufacturing of rotating machinery or shell-and-tube heat exchangers.
    • Supplier coordination and project management experience required.
    • Knowledge of full hardware lifecycle from conception to decommissioning.
    • Strong mechanical aptitude with experience in fluid and structural analysis, tolerance analysis, and reading engineering drawings.
    • Excellent technical writing, communication, and presentation skills.
    • Attention to detail and a commitment to technical excellence.
    • Self-starter with the ability to coordinate and lead a design team with minimal guidance.
    • Ability to handle projects with multiple objectives and design constraints, resolving conflicts effectively.
    • Experience managing multiple tasks requiring multidisciplinary coordination.
    • High integrity, open communication, and team-oriented attitude.
