Position Overview
We are seeking a highly motivated Natural Gas Pricing Analyst to join our growing energy trading and commercial team in Stamford, CT. This individual will play a key role in analyzing North American natural gas markets, developing pricing forecasts, and delivering market intelligence that supports trading, risk management, origination, and commercial decision-making. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of natural gas fundamentals, pipeline dynamics, regional pricing relationships, and market drivers across major U.S. and Canadian hubs.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze natural gas supply, demand, storage, pipeline, LNG, and weather fundamentals to develop short and long-term price forecasts.
- Monitor and evaluate daily market developments impacting natural gas pricing across key regions including Henry Hub, Northeast, Midcontinent, Gulf Coast, Permian, and Western markets.
- Build and maintain fundamental market models to support forward price curves and basis forecasts.
- Track pipeline maintenance, capacity constraints, storage inventories, production trends, and demand-side drivers.
- Develop market outlooks and written commentary for traders, originators, risk managers, and senior leadership.
- Support trading and commercial teams through ad hoc market analysis and pricing recommendations.
- Analyze ICE, CME, and physical market pricing data to identify trends, arbitrage opportunities, and market risks.
- Collaborate with quantitative, risk, and trading teams to enhance forecasting methodologies and market analytics.
- Prepare presentations and reports summarizing market fundamentals, pricing trends, and key risks.
- Utilize data visualization and analytical tools to improve reporting and decision-making processes.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Economics, Finance, Energy Commerce, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field.
- 2+ years of experience in natural gas market analysis, commodity research, energy trading analytics, or a related role.
- Strong understanding of North American natural gas fundamentals and regional market dynamics.
- Knowledge of pipeline systems, storage economics, basis markets, and transportation fundamentals.
- Experience analyzing market data from ICE, CME, Bentek, Wood Mackenzie, Enverus, Genscape, S&P Global Commodity Insights, or similar platforms.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel; experience with Python, SQL, Power BI, Tableau, or other analytical tools is preferred.
- Strong quantitative, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented commodity trading environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting natural gas trading, scheduling, risk management, or origination teams.
- Familiarity with LNG, power market interactions, and broader energy markets.
- Experience building forecasting models and scenario analysis frameworks.
- Knowledge of North American energy infrastructure and regulatory developments.
