Prevention Coach

The Prevention Coach supports the Sewa Uusim Grant operations on all focus areas for children and their families. The incumbent is responsible for assisting in the coordination of focus area of services and activities within the Systems of Care model for youth and theirfamilies. Focuses may include Community Partners, Youth, Families, Education, Health, Alternative Medicines, and Volunteerism Programs.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Assist Sewa Uusim staff in assuring that community members and youth that are working within the Systemsof Care duties may include prioritize and assign work, ensure youth are trained, ensure that youth follow policies and procedures, and maintain a healthy and safe working environment.
  2. Work closely with the Program Manager and Resource Coordinators to discuss projects and collaboration efforts within the Sewa Uusim array of services at community events.
  3. Assist coordinators in providing support services including educational, community groups, and resources focus programs for Sewa Uusim youth and families, wraparound teams, other departments and community services.
  4. Assist in implementing community activities including but not limited to focus area, wraparound in Indian country and Systems of Care principals.
  5. May present and facilitate workshops on key areas such as parenting, wellness, alcohol, substance abuse use, suicide, and smoking cessation, and other prevention areas.
  6. Assist other Program Manager, Resource Coordinators and staff in coordinating activities, events, and workshops.
  7. Transport community members, youth, and families to various Sewa Uusim activities, events, and services.
  8. Complete rosters and comply with safety policies when working with or transporting members.
  9. Provide Evening or weekend transportation of children, youth, and families to events as needed or directed.
  10. Report all activity and event outcomes to the Sewa Uusim Program staff.
  11. Maintain a working knowledge of the mental health, developmentally disabled, social service and wrap system in assigned in order to provide appropriate referral and linkage for members served.
  12. Perform other duties of a similar nature or level as requested by supervisor or director.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of:

  • Report preparation techniques;
  • Applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations;
  • Outreach strategies;
  • Community and tribal resources;
  • Applicable theories and principles related to youth and family behavioral health, using a wraparound service model and Systems of Care principals;
  • Behavioral Health policies and procedures;
  • English language, grammar, and punctuation;
  • Behavioral Health Life Skills training models;
  • HIPAA and confidentiality requirements in a Behavioral Health setting;
  • Yaqui culture, customs, resources and traditions and/or a willingness to learn.

Skills and Abilities:

Education, Certifications and Experience Required:

High School and two (2) years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

AND

  • CDL strongly desired;
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
Special Requirements:
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Arizona Driver's License;
  • This position will require the incumbent to work non-traditional hours, nights, and weekends;
  • Must have a current Level 1 Arizona Clearance Card or be able to obtain the Level 1 Arizona Clearance Card within ninety (90) days of hire. Failure to maintain a current Level 1 Clearance Card will result in termination.
  • Must pass a background check and drug test.
  • CPR and First Aid Certifications
