Job Title: Press Brake Operator
Job Summary
The Press Brake Operator is responsible for setting up, programming, and operating press brake machines to bend, form, and shape metal parts according to specifications. This role requires precision, mechanical aptitude, and the ability to read technical drawings to produce high-quality components.
Key Responsibilities
Set up and operate CNC and/or manual press brake machines
Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and work orders
Select correct tooling (dies, punches) based on material and job requirements
Program machines or input bending sequences (for CNC brakes)
Perform test bends and adjust machine settings to meet specifications
Measure finished parts using calipers, micrometers, and gauges
Inspect parts for accuracy, quality, and defects
Maintain production efficiency while meeting quality standards
Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of equipment
Follow all safety procedures and company policies
Collaborate with supervisors, engineers, and other team members
Required Skills & Qualifications
High school diploma or GED (technical training preferred)
Proven experience operating press brakes (CNC preferred)
Strong understanding of metal fabrication processes
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints
Familiarity with measurement tools and quality control practices
Basic math skills (fractions, decimals, geometry)
Mechanical aptitude and attention to detail
Ability to lift heavy materials (often 25–50 lbs or more)
Strong problem-solving skills
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with specific machines (e.g., Amada, Cincinnati, Trumpf)
Knowledge of CNC programming (e.g., Delem, Cybelec controllers)
Forklift or crane operation experience
Lean manufacturing or Six Sigma exposure
Work Environment
Manufacturing or fabrication shop setting
Exposure to noise, metal dust, and heavy machinery
Standing for long periods
Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves, safety glasses, and steel-toe boots
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand for extended periods
Frequent bending, lifting, and reaching
Manual dexterity for handling tools and materials
Compensation & Schedule (Example)
Hourly wage based on experience
Overtime may be required
