    Position Overview

    The President & CEO Executive Leadership Intern will gain unique exposure to executive nonprofit leadership, organizational strategy, governance, community partnerships, administration, and mission-driven decision-making. This internship is designed for a student interested in nonprofit leadership, business administration, public administration, public policy, organizational leadership, social impact, community development, or a related field.

    East End Cooperative Ministry changes the lives of people facing the impacts of poverty. Working directly with the President & CEO, the intern will explore what it takes to lead an organization in pursuit of that mission. The experience will provide exposure to how executive leadership connects programs, people, partnerships, finances, governance, community relationships, and organizational strategy while remaining focused on the needs of the people and communities EECM serves.

    The internship will provide a unique view of nonprofit leadership beyond a single department, allowing the student to understand how executive decisions influence the entire organization and its ability to create sustainable community impact.

    Key Responsibilities

    The intern may assist with:

    • Supporting special projects and strategic initiatives identified by the President & CEO.
    • Conducting research to inform organizational planning, partnerships, programs, or executive decision-making.
    • Learning about nonprofit governance and the relationship between executive leadership and the Board of Directors.
    • Assisting with preparation for meetings, presentations, community engagements, and organizational initiatives.
    • Supporting research and analysis related to nonprofit trends, poverty, community needs, public policy, and human services.
    • Observing and supporting cross-departmental initiatives involving programs, development, finance, operations, and community engagement.
    • Assisting with organizational planning and special projects that advance EECM's strategic priorities.
    • Participating in appropriate leadership, community, partner, or stakeholder meetings.
    • Helping prepare briefing materials, research summaries, reports, presentations, and other executive-level materials.
    • Learning how nonprofit executives build and maintain relationships with community leaders, businesses, partner organizations, and other stakeholders.
    • Examining how organizational leaders evaluate opportunities, challenges, risks, resources, and community impact when making decisions.
    • Supporting initiatives designed to strengthen EECM's long-term effectiveness and sustainability.

    What You'll Gain

    Through this internship, the student will:

    • Gain direct exposure to executive leadership within a multifaceted nonprofit organization.
    • Develop an understanding of strategic planning, nonprofit governance, organizational management, and executive decision-making.
    • Observe how an organization balances mission, community needs, finances, programs, personnel, partnerships, and long-term sustainability.
    • Strengthen research, communication, critical-thinking, project-management, and leadership skills.
    • Gain exposure to relationships among nonprofit organizations, businesses, community organizations, and other stakeholders.
    • Participate in meaningful executive-level projects and initiatives.
    • Understand how executive decisions influence programs and the individuals and families those programs serve.
    • Apply academic knowledge to a substantive organizational capstone project.
    • Gain insight into the responsibilities, challenges, and opportunities associated with executive nonprofit leadership.
    • Develop professional experience that can support future employment, graduate study, nonprofit leadership, public service, or community leadership opportunities.

    Work Schedule and Compensation:

    • 10-15 hours per week. Flexible schedule to accommodate school schedule. (Some evenings and weekend required)
    • Unpaid educational internship (In-Office)
