Position Overview: North Vermillion Elementary School is seeking a caring, dependable, and energetic individual to serve as a Preschool Teaching Assistant. The successful candidate will help provide a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment where young children can learn, grow, and develop.
This is a hands-on and active position that requires someone who enjoys working with young children and is comfortable assisting with both instructional and personal care needs.
Primary Responsibilities
- Assist the preschool teacher with daily classroom activities and routines.
- Provide a safe, caring, and loving environment for all students.
- Support students with classroom expectations, routines, and transitions.
- Assist with classroom management and redirect student behavior as needed.
- Help students develop appropriate social, emotional, and behavioral skills.
- Assist students with personal care needs, including diapering and toileting.
- Participate in learning activities, play, centers, small groups, and other classroom experiences.
- Supervise students and maintain awareness of their safety and well-being at all times.
- Assist with preparing and maintaining an organized and welcoming classroom environment.
- Work cooperatively with the preschool teacher, school staff, and families.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the classroom teacher or administration.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Previous experience working with young children is preferred.
- Experience in a preschool, childcare, classroom, or similar setting is preferred.
- Must be comfortable with diapering, toileting, and other personal care responsibilities.
- Must be energetic, patient, dependable, and able to work as part of a team.
- Must be able to remain active throughout the school day, including standing, walking, bending, sitting on the floor, and assisting young children as needed.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Must be willing and able to redirect students in a positive and supportive manner.
- Must successfully pass a required background check and meet all employment requirements.
