    Preschool Intervention & Referral Specialist

    Director of Curriculum; District Supervisor of Preschool & Kindergarten; Principals

    DESCRIPTION:

    The Preschool Intervention and Referral Specialist (PIRS) plays a critical role in supporting the social-emotional, behavioral, and developmental needs of preschool students. This position focuses on early identification, intervention planning, and collaboration with teachers and families to ensure that all young learners receive appropriate support within inclusive classroom environments. The PIRS works closely with teachers, administrators, and families to implement research -based strategies aligned with best practices in early childhood education.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Provide coaching and support to preschool teachers regarding student behavior, social-emotional development, and model classroom management strategies

    • Observe students in classroom settings often and collect data to inform intervention planning

    • Assist in the development and implementation of targeted intervention plans for students demonstrating behavioral or developmental concerns

    • Establish and manage case files for each child with a Request for Assistance (RFA) form.

    • Communicate and collaborate with families to provide resources, strategies, and guidance to support student success at home and school

    • Assist in coordinating services with community-based agencies

    • Collect and maintain accurate documentation of developmental screeners (ESI-R), interventions, observations, and progress monitoring data

    • Provide professional development to preschool staff on topics such as behavior management, trauma-informed practices, and inclusion

    • Collaborate with the Child Study Team (CST) and other specialists to support referral processes

    • Participate in I&RS meetings and contribute relevant data and recommendations

    • Facilitate transition of all PIRS case files to other programs as necessary (i.e. Kindergarten, CST).

    • Work with private providers and Head Start preschool staff to provide services as stated above

    • Ensure compliance with district policies, state regulations, and early childhood program requirements

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Must possess a Preschool through Grade 3 (P-3), Teacher of Students with Disabilities (TOSD), Social Worker, or equivalent educational services certificate.

    REMUNERATION:

    The salary will be in accordance with the current KEA contract.
