Shenandoah University's Child Care Center is accepting applications for a Preschool Assistant Teacher. This is a full-time, benefited position located in Winchester, Virginia.

Assist teacher in daily activities; Develop and implement lesson plans; meet each child's basic needs; interact with children; take children outside daily; communicate with parents about their child's day; clean and sanitize toys and tables; learn and implement licensing regulations. Maintain a positive learning environment in the classroom.

  • Must be willing to receive annually 16 in-service hours, CPR and First Aid, and attend staff meetings.
  • High Energy & Physical Stamina: You will be bending, squatting to eye level, lifting up to 35-40 lbs, and moving quickly for hours.
  • Strong Communication: The ability to speak gently and clearly to children, but also professionally collaborate with the lead teacher and give reassuring updates to parents.

Required Experience

  • Experience working with young children (ages 2-5) in a licensed childcare center, preschool, daycare, or structured camp setting.

Education:

  • Minimum of a High School Diploma or GED.

  • Preferred: A Child Development Associate (CDA) credential, or an Associate's degree in Early Childhood Education (ECE) or Child Development.

  • Certifications: Active CPR and First Aid certification (Infant/Child/Adult) is almost always mandatory before your first day.

  • Background Clearance: Ability to pass a mandatory state and federal criminal background check and fingerprinting.
