Prep Cook and Culinary Support Staff serve in the areas of River Street Cafe, Park Place Cafe & the Commissary Kitchen

• Prepare food so that quality, taste and appearance of food is in accordance with Campus Dining standards.
• Prepares product based on the prediction of Cooks, Managers, and Supervisors.
• Checks and adjusts thermostat to regulate temperture of ovens, broilers, grills, roasters, steam kettles, steamers, and fryers.
• Measures and mixes ingredients according to recipe to prepare soups, salads, gravies, desserts, sauces, and casseroles.
• Bakes, roasts, broils, fries, and steams meats, fish, vegetables, and other foods.
• Adds seasoning to foods during mixing or cooking.
• Observes and tests foods being cooked by tasting, smelling, using a probe thermometer and piercing with fork to determine that it is properly cooked.
• Carves meats, portions food on serving plates and buffet pans, adds gravies and sauces, and garnishes servings to fill orders.
• Washes, peels, cuts, and shreds vegetables and fruits to prepare them for use.
• Butchers chickens, fish, and shellfish.
• Cuts, trims, and bones meat prior to cooking.
• Bakes bread, rolls, cakes, and pastry as needed.
• Control proper usage and rotation of food.
• Ensure food quality and appearance on buffet.
• Alert chef or direct supervisor to any food quality issues that could have an adverse effect on culinary operations.
• Maintain par levels of stock and prep of food items.
• Maintain walk-in coolers and food storage areas on a daily basis.
• Maintain a neat, clean, and sanitary workstation.
• Ensure food is prepared and plated within App State time frame.

Preferred Qualifications

Culinary experience in a professional kitchen. Culinary School/ACF Certification preferred.

Work Schedule/Hours

Schedule varies depending on business need and on unit. Some weekend work may be required.

Please note: Temporary positions and work schedules will vary from position to position depending on department's needs. Hours per week may be full time or part time.

Hiring Range $14-$19 per hour ; final hourly rate will be determined by the candidate's previous experience and skills
