This position provides perinatal education to obstetric patients. This position may be required to access and administer medications within their scope of practice and according to state law.

Responsibilities
Essential Functions
- Provides perinatal education to registered participants.
- Participates in the orientation of new educators.
- Assists with the planning, evaluation, and revision of the program.
- Facilitates the application of research findings.
- Provides assistance to instructors/students at the College of Nursing.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
- Ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined above.
- Demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills.
- Ability to provide care appropriate to the population served.
- The staff member must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit.
- The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of life span growth and development and the ability to assess data regarding the patient''s status and provide care as described in the department''s policies and procedures manual.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor''s degree in a related area, or equivalency.
- Membership in a nationally recognized childbirth education or lactation organization within three months of hire, if not an RN.
- Certification by a nationally recognized childbirth education or lactation organization must be obtained within two years of hire.
Licenses Required
- Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system. The eCredential is to be obtained within 30 days of hire.
- Additional license requirements as determined by the hiring department.
Qualifications (Preferred)
Preferred
- Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Utah and certification in childbirth education or lactation.
- Two years of experience in perinatal education and current childbirth education certification.
Working Conditions and Physical Demands
Employee must be able to meet the following requirements with or without an accommodation.
- This position involves light work that may exert up to 20 pounds and may consistently require light work involving lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling or otherwise moving objects involving patient care or medical equipment. This position is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
