Description

Precision Industrial Machine Assembler

Location: Auburn Hills, MI
Compensation: $28–$30 per hour
Employment Type: Long-Term Contract

A day in the life

You start your morning reviewing mechanical and assembly drawings for a new build. With tools at the ready, you lay out components, confirm specifications, and begin assembling sub-systems following established procedures and ISO and company quality standards. Throughout the day, you document any build issues or suggested design changes, flagging them to the Machine Build Lead and updating project notes so timing and cost targets stay on track.

By midday, you’re machining a bracket on a mill, touching up a feature on the lathe, and preparing parts for finishing. Safety is constant: Lockout/Tagout practices, machine guarding, and a clean, organized work area are standard. Before wrap-up, you collaborate with fellow builders and engineers to resolve an alignment challenge and prepare the unit for the next phase—possibly including heat treating or deburring. Some weeks, you pack up to support an installation at a customer site—domestic or international—traveling approximately 20% or more as projects require.

What you will build and do

  • Assemble industrial machinery and equipment per drawings, specifications, and procedures.
  • Interpret part and assembly drawings with intermediate proficiency.
  • Execute assigned build tasks independently while meeting safety, quality, productivity, and timing goals.
  • Identify, document, and communicate build issues and design changes.
  • Partner closely with the Machine Build Lead to report status, risks, and progress.
  • Deliver projects aligned with ISO and company quality standards, focusing on cost, quality, timing, and customer satisfaction.
  • Keep the work area clean, organized, and safe throughout the build.
  • Prepare parts for secondary processes, including material finishing, heat treating, and deburring.
  • Operate shop equipment safely and effectively, including mills, lathes, drill presses, surface grinders, grinders, saws, shears, and presses.
  • Collaborate with Machine Builders, Leads, Engineers, and Project personnel to resolve build challenges and achieve milestones.
  • Follow required safety procedures, including Lockout/Tagout and all applicable machine safety requirements.
  • Support customer-site installations, service, and project activities as needed, with domestic and international travel approximately 20% or more.

What you bring

  • High school diploma or equivalent (required); vocational/technical education (preferred).
  • Prior experience in machine building, equipment assembly, mechanical assembly, or industrial manufacturing (preferred).
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and a commitment to safety and quality.
  • Intermediate skill reading and interpreting mechanical part and assembly drawings.
  • Basic computer proficiency.
