Precision CNC Turning Machinist

Location: Grand Rapids, MI | Employment Type: Full-time

A day in the role

It’s 7:00 a.m. in our Grand Rapids job shop. You power up the CNC lathe, dial in your first setup, and run a short batch to exact specs. By mid-morning, you’re changing tools and applying offsets to hit the next tolerance window. After lunch, you load a new program, verify it, and check parts with micrometers, calipers, and gauges before moving to the next small run. You wrap at 3:30 p.m. with quality parts on the cart—and your evening free.

What you'll handle

  • End-to-end operation of a CNC lathe for small-batch production
  • Multiple changeovers per shift, including efficient setups
  • Tool changes and applying offsets to maintain tight tolerances
  • Loading and switching programs as jobs rotate through
  • Quality verification using gauges, calipers, and micrometers
  • Pitching in across the shop as workflow demands

Schedule & pay

1st shift: 7:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m., Monday–Friday (no weekends)

Compensation: $21–$25 per hour, based on experience

What you bring

  • At least 2 years of hands-on CNC lathe machining experience
  • Proficiency with tool changes and offsets
  • Comfort performing multiple setups in a single shift
  • Ability to change programs as jobs rotate
  • Familiarity with precision measurement tools (gauges, calipers, micrometers)
  • Flexibility to assist in other areas as needed
