Precision CNC Setup & Process Improvement Machinist (Senior)
When you step onto our manufacturing floor, you turn raw stock into precision components through milling, turning, threading, drilling, and tapping—always to print, to spec, and to our quality standards. In this senior (Level 3–equivalent) role, you execute complex, multi-operation changeovers on mills and lathes, perform advanced on‑control programming, and lead floor‑level problem solving and process improvements. You collaborate across departments to reduce delays, keep schedules on track, and consistently achieve standard times.
What you will do
- Own complex setups end‑to‑end, including multi‑op work, tight tolerances, critical surface finishes, and—where applicable—multi‑axis or live‑tooling configurations.
- Make advanced on‑machine program edits and partner with programmers to resolve CAM and post‑processing issues.
- Engineer workholding and tooling strategies; recommend or design simple fixtures and jigs as needed.
- Optimize feeds, speeds, sequencing, and tool paths to improve cycle time, quality, and tool life.
- Interpret complex blueprints and advanced GD&T; define inspection strategy and acceptance criteria.
- Lead troubleshooting and root‑cause analysis for machining defects; implement robust corrective and preventive actions.
- Support or lead First Article Inspections (FAIs); advise on inspection approaches and documentation accuracy.
- Run on‑machine trials for new tools, coolants, and methods; document and standardize best practices.
- Drive reductions in setup time and scrap while increasing repeatability and first‑pass yield.
- Model safe practices, including proper rigging and lockout/tagout (LOTO); intervene when unsafe conditions arise.
- Perform and document operator preventive maintenance checks; identify machine condition issues for maintenance.
- Safely operate forklifts, overhead/jib cranes, and other lifting devices to move heavy or awkward parts.
- Contribute wherever needed to support department and company objectives.
What you bring
- Expert CNC setup on lathes and/or mills; strong preference for experience with multi‑axis or live‑tooling platforms.
- Advanced control proficiency (e.g., Haas, Fanuc) and confident on‑machine program editing.
- Deep knowledge of tooling, workholding, cutting theory, and process capability.
- Advanced print reading and GD&T, with the ability to guide inspection strategy and standards.
- Documented history improving cycle time, setup time, tool life, and first‑pass yield.
- Clear communicator, effective trainer, and hands‑on technical leader with high ownership and sound judgment.
Education & experience
- High school diploma or GED required; technical certificate or apprenticeship preferred.
- 5+ years of CNC machining with proven complex setups and process optimization achievements.
- Forklift and crane operation experience required (we can provide certification).
- Experience collaborating with programming/engineering on process development.
Physical demands

- Frequently bend, stoop, or kneel; lift and/or move up to 40 lbs.
- Visual acuity: close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Work environment
- Manufacturing floor exposure to moving mechanical parts, cutting fluids, and airborne particles.
- Noise levels from moderate to loud; PPE is required per area standards.
- Potential rotation between machines, shifts, or cells based on production needs.
