A Night in the Life

At 11 PM, you step onto a well-organized floor where 5S is a way of life. You review prints and job instruction sheets, load tools, and enter programs. Through the night, you set up and run mills, lathes, grinders, machining centers, drill presses, and drill machines—tracking part locations digitally, routing components to their next operation, and checking every dimension to keep tolerances as tight as 0.0002 in. When something’s off, you adjust offsets, rework parts to spec, and collaborate with engineers, your Team Lead, and production teammates. You wrap up just before 7 AM—area tidy, hoists inspected, paperwork complete, and continuous-improvement ideas ready for the next huddle.

What You’ll Do

• Interpret blueprints, sketches, and job sheets to determine dimensions, tolerances, and machine setups.
• Select and set cutting tools, attachments, and materials across mills, lathes, grinders, machining centers, drill presses, and drill machines.
• Retrieve, input, and edit CNC control data; set up, operate, and monitor machines to prevent malfunctions or out-of-tolerance conditions.
• Make on-the-spot adjustments to machine controls or programs to maintain quality.
• Measure parts using appropriate gauges and methods; verify results against specifications and prints.
• Rework components that do not initially meet requirements.
• Partner with supervisors, engineers, and production staff to resolve machining challenges.
• Follow ISO procedures and all safety rules; wear required PPE and perform hoist inspections.
• Route completed parts per the routing sequence and update part locations via computer data entry.
• Maintain accurate work order cover sheets, daily production logs, status updates, and quality records.
• Communicate regularly with peers and Team Leads to sustain throughput and solve issues quickly.
• Hold tolerances down to 0.0002 in; maintain organized, clean work areas to 5S standards.
• Contribute ideas on cell layout and process efficiency; attend monthly department and quarterly town hall meetings.
• Perform other duties as assigned to support production goals.

What You Bring

• High school diploma or GED.
• 2+ years of hands-on CNC machining experience.

Core Capabilities

• Read and interpret safety rules, operating/maintenance instructions, blueprints, memos, and procedures.
• Communicate job information one-on-one and in small groups with supervisors, customers/clients, and peers.
• Perform basic math with values from 0.0001 to 0.1; convert between metric and U.S. units.
• Execute detailed written and verbal instructions; solve problems with multiple variables using standard methods (e.g., 5 Whys).
• Stand/walk up to 8 continuous hours; lift 35 lbs solo and 70 lbs with assistance repeatedly over an 8-hour shift; push/pull up to 35 lbs.
• Vision corrected to no worse than 20/35 with glasses/contacts.

Preferred

• Associate degree or relevant technical certification.
• Proficiency with depth, bore, and height gauges; feeler gauges; micrometers; calipers; deburring tools; die grinders; drill presses; and overhead lifting equipment.

Work Setting

Role is onsite at Mocksville, NC; no travel anticipated.
