Position Overview


Ocean State School of Gymnastics is seeking a motivated Pre-Team Gymnastics Coach to work with athletes in our pre-team programs. These programs are designed to prepare gymnasts for future competitive team participation by building strong fundamentals, work ethic, and a love for the sport.


Our pre-team program includes three age groups: 3–4 years, 5–7 years, and 7+ years. The coach will guide athletes through structured training that develops strength, flexibility, coordination, and foundational gymnastics technique while fostering confidence and discipline.


Key Responsibilities


Athlete Development


  • Coach athletes in the pre-team developmental program across the three age groups: 3–4, 5–7, and 7+.
  • Teach foundational gymnastics skills on vault, bars, beam, floor, trampoline, and double mini.
  • Develop strength, flexibility, body awareness, and basic conditioning habits.
  • Prepare athletes for potential advancement to competitive team programs.
Skill Progressions


  • Break down skills into safe and appropriate progressions for developing athletes.
  • Focus on proper technique and strong foundational basics.
  • Provide individualized feedback to help athletes improve.
Class Structure & Management


  • Plan and lead structured practices that balance skill development, conditioning, and fun.
  • Maintain a positive and focused training environment.
  • Encourage athletes to develop discipline, focus, and confidence.
Safety


  • Ensure athletes follow all gym safety rules and proper equipment use.
  • Spot athletes appropriately and maintain awareness of all participants during practice.
Qualifications


  • Experience in gymnastics preferred.
  • Previous coaching experience with children is a plus.
  • Ability to demonstrate or safely teach basic gymnastics skills.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills.
  • Patient, positive, and encouraging coaching style.
  • Reliable and able to work as part of a coaching team.
