    Pre-Operative Phone Assessment Nurse – RN/LPN

    Full-Time | Monday–Friday | No Weekends, Holidays or On-Call

Berks Urologic Surgery Center (BUSC) is looking for a full-time RN or LPN to join our team as a Pre-Operative Phone Assessment Nurse.

This is an important clinical role for a nurse who enjoys connecting with patients, has strong assessment and critical-thinking skills, and appreciates the opportunity to make an impact before a patient ever arrives for surgery.

Our Pre-Operative Phone Assessment Nurse helps ensure patients are medically and practically prepared for their upcoming procedure. Through detailed telephone assessments, you will review medical history, medications, allergies, previous surgical and anesthesia experiences, testing, clearances, and other relevant clinical information—identifying potential concerns early and helping our team provide safe, efficient care on the day of surgery.

    What You’ll Do

Complete pre-operative telephone assessments with patients prior to scheduled procedures

Review medical and surgical history, medications, allergies, relevant health conditions, and previous anesthesia experiences

Review available laboratory results, diagnostic testing, medical clearances, and required documentation

Use your clinical judgment to recognize potential concerns and appropriately escalate information to anesthesia, providers, or clinical leadership

Provide clear, patient-friendly pre-operative instructions regarding arrival, fasting, medications, transportation, and procedure preparation

Make sure patients understand their instructions, know what to expect, and have an opportunity to ask questions

Coordinate follow-up when additional testing, records, clearances, or clinical review are needed

Accurately and timely document assessments, patient communication, and follow-up in the medical record

Partner closely with anesthesia, providers, and the Surgery Center clinical team to help prevent avoidable delays or cancellations

Maintain patient confidentiality and follow established patient safety, HIPAA, and facility standards

You May Be a Great Fit If You:

Are an RN or LPN with an active Pennsylvania nursing license

Have strong clinical assessment and critical-thinking skills

Are comfortable reviewing a patient's medical history and recognizing when something needs additional clinical attention

Communicate clearly and compassionately with patients

Are organized, thorough, and highly attentive to detail

Enjoy working independently while remaining closely connected to a clinical team

Are comfortable working within an electronic medical record and documenting accurately

Take ownership of your work and enjoy helping both patients and coworkers have a smoother day

Previous nursing experience is preferred. Experience in ambulatory surgery, perioperative nursing, pre-admission testing, PACU, medical-surgical nursing, or a similar clinical setting is especially valuable.

    Current BLS certification is required.
