Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Specimen Processing Supervisor to oversee the pre-analytical operations of our clinical laboratory. This role is responsible for managing all aspects of specimen processing, including receiving, accessioning, data entry, and referral testing. The ideal candidate will lead a high-performing team, ensure regulatory compliance, and continuously optimize workflow efficiency and quality standards.

Job Responsibilities:

Supervise daily operations of the Specimen Processing department to ensure timely and accurate processing and tracking of laboratory samples.

Maintain strict adherence to regulatory standards, including CAP, HIPAA, CLIA, and OSHA requirements.

Lead, train, and evaluate department staff to ensure ongoing competence, productivity, and professional development.

Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) that support accurate and efficient specimen handling.

Foster a collaborative, participative work environment that promotes employee engagement and continuous improvement.

Partner with technical and clinical departments to troubleshoot issues and implement process enhancements.

Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and drive initiatives to improve turnaround time, sample integrity, and data accuracy.

Coordinate with referral laboratories and ensure proper handling and documentation of send-out testing.

Act as a liaison between the specimen processing team and other departments to ensure effective communication and workflow alignment.

Qualifications & Skills:

Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related field required.

Minimum of 10 years of clinical laboratory experience, with extensive knowledge in specimen processing and pre-analytical workflows.

Active certification as a Medical Technologist (ASCP, AMT, or equivalent) required.

Florida Clinical Laboratory Supervisor License required.

Proven leadership experience, with the ability to effectively train, manage, and motivate a team.

Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high attention to detail and accuracy.

Experience with laboratory information systems (LIS) and sample tracking tools is preferred.
