Position Description

Join the WDTC team toinstructstudentsinthePracticalNursingProgram.Theinstructionalprogramoccursinaclassroom lecture, lab and clinical settings, and prepares students to work in the practical nursing field.

Reports to: Director of Nursing

Supervises: Adjuncts as needed

Working Conditions:

This is a full-time position and the work to be performed will be done in a classroom lecture setting nursing lab and clinical settings. Generally, days of work are Monday through Friday from 7:30am-4pm. Hours of work may include evenings/weekends for planned school events. There may be times when travel is required for meetings/training.

Physical Demands:

The duties of this position are sedentary in nature with lectures in a classroom setting and labs in the simulation center; some standing, bending, stooping, kneeling, crawling, twisting, climbing, balancing and lifting/moving objects up to 50 lbs. will be required. The use of hands to use the computer and handle objects or reach with hands and arms and the ability to talk and hear.

Position Essential Duties

1. Mastery of Subject Matter

• Demonstrate a thorough and accurate knowledge of their field or discipline.
• Display an ability to interpret and evaluate the theories of their field or discipline.
• Connect their subject matter with related fields.
• Stay current in their subject matter through professional development, involvement in professional organizations, and attending professional meetings, conferences, or workshops.
• Reviews and reports on the programs content and assessment to meet Higher Learning Commission requirements.
• Learn and use technology to enhance teaching and the educational experience when appropriate.

2. Teaching Performance

• Teach a course load as outlined in the Faculty Work Agreement.
• Plan and organize instruction in ways that maximize documented student learning.
• Employ appropriate teaching and learning strategies to communicate subject matter to students.
• Modify, where appropriate, instructional methods and strategies to meet diverse student needs.
• Employ available instructional technology, i.e. the internet, interactive technology, simulation when appropriate.
• Encourage the development of communication skills and higher order thinking skills through appropriate assignments.
• Contribute to the selection and development of instructional materials in accordance with course objectives.
• Incorporate core competencies into curriculum.
• Promote student success by building positive interpersonal relationships with staff, students and colleagues at WDTC.
• Develop, update and post course syllabi in a timely manner.

3. Evaluation of Student Learning

• Establish meaningful student/program learning outcomes for courses/program.
• Develop and explain methods that fairly measure student progress toward student/program learning outcomes.
• Create an annual program learning outcome plan and complete all assessment cycle requirements.
• Evaluate student performance fairly and consistently and return student work promptly to promote maximum learning.
• Maintain accurate records of student progress and submit final grade rosters as required after each class according to established deadlines.
• Demonstrate sensitivity to student needs and circumstances.

4. Support of Schools Policies and Procedures

• Teach classes as assigned.
• Perform job responsibilities as outlined in faculty handbook.
• Adhere to FERPA regulations.
• Substitute for other instructors within field or discipline in case of an absence.
• Exercise stewardship of schools facilities and materials.
• Record and provide attendance data in accordance with schools policies and procedures.

5.Participation in Western Dakota Tech Program Activities

• Serve on committees as assigned
• Participate in meetings and events required by WDTC administrators
• Respond in a timely fashion to information requests from colleagues and administrators.
• Support both part-time and full-time colleagues.
• Contribute to program curriculum development processes and assessment.
• Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills in communication with students, colleagues, staff and administrators as an individual or as a part of a team.

6.Contribution to Growth and Enhancement of Schools Mission and Programs

• Maintain familiarity with schools strategic goals, mission, and long-range plans.
• Contribute to planning and development processes through appropriate mechanisms and channels.
• Participate in professional activities that contribute to the educational goals of the school and its constituents.
• Perform professional responsibilities in accordance with pertinent goals, missions, and plans of the program.

Qualifications

Bachelors Degree required, Masters Degree preferred, and a minimum of three years of related practical nursing industry work experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience necessary to successfully perform the essential functions of the work required in practical nursing. SD Registered Nursing license and drivers license required.

• Fundamental knowledge of classroom, laboratory, and clinical management techniques that promote a safe and productive learning environment.
• Fundamental knowledge of student assessment and evaluation methods across classroom, lab, and clinical settings.
• Fundamental knowledge of program development, implementation, and continuous quality improvement processes.
• Knowledge of institutional policies and procedures, as well as regulatory and accreditation standards relevant to nursing education.
• Maintain current knowledge of trends, best practices, and emerging issues relevant to the position.
• Ability to effectively instruct, coach, and provide constructive feedback to students in classroom, laboratory, and clinical settings.
• Skill in maintaining professional standards and modeling appropriate clinical behavior, communication, and appearance.
