Job Title:

Powerplant & Mechanical Systems Engineer I

Position Summary

Provide engineering for the design, installation and support of new and modified powerplant and mechanical systems. Assist in preparing certification reports. Provide technical support for Customer Service, Production, Purchasing and Legal departments.

Essential Job Functions

  • Produce details parts, assemblies, and installations using a combination of solid models, NX or mylar drawings, engineering orders (EOs), and/or engineering work orders.
  • Familiarization of standard industry hardware (AS, NAS, MS, etc) and fabrication of parts and assemblies using a combination of aerospace materials, sheet metal forming, and/or machining processes.
  • Ability to evaluate material specifications (metals, rubbers, plastics, greases, etc) to determine correct use of material for the design application, operating environment, and system performance requirements.
  • Troubleshoot production issues that arise during aircraft build, system checkout procedures, and flight testing to determine the best corrective action with consideration to system functionality, cost, and schedule.
  • Define criteria to aide in the development and validation of part design such as inspections and test plans.
  • Coordinate projects with various departments (structures, methods, manufacturing, FAA ODA, etc) and incorporate feedback to ensure new or revised designs satisfy all company and FAA requirements.
  • Evaluate component and system level performance to determine replacement options for part obsolescence.

This job has no supervisory responsibilities. May be required to train and assist other employees, effectively partnering and collaborating on department and cross-functional organizational initiatives.

Minimum Position Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical/Aerospace/Aeronautical Engineering or equivalent with 0-3 years of experience working with aircraft systems, including but not limited to propulsion, propeller, fuel, fuel quantity, fire detection, flight control, pitot/static, environmental control, cabin pressure control, oxygen, hydraulic, brake and/or anti-ice/de-ice systems.
  • Working knowledge of CAD software, specifically Siemens NX and Teamcenter, is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel and PowerPoint, are required.
