    Description of Organization: 
    The Baruch STEP Academy is an academic enrichment program focusing on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education and providing college preparation. Managed through the CUNY Research Foundation, we serve middle and high school students throughout the city. 


    Position: Financial Postsecondary Counselor (In-Person Position)

    The Fall 2026 Counseling Program Schedule:

    8 Saturdays: October 3 through November 21 from 10am-2pm

    Summary of Responsibilities:

    The STEP Academy at Baruch College is seeking a college access counselor to perform the following tasks:

    • Create, track, and revise individual academic plans and discuss career aspiration during one-on-one and small group counseling sessions

    • Lead student workshop sessions on college preparation, financial literacy (including understanding FAFSA and CSS Profiles, financial aid and award letters, and college cents, and career readiness)

    • Develop and facilitate workshops to provide parents with resources to advocate for and support their child's education

    • Assist with the advisory committee and parent group

    • Collaborate with staff on assessing program's college and career readiness offerings

    • Other duties as assigned

    Qualifications
      Required:

    • Bachelor’s Degree 

    • Availability from 10am – 2pm each Saturdays session

    • Experience providing student counseling sessions and facilitate parent workshops 

    • Background in college access counseling, specializing in financial literacy and preparedness

    • Possess good interpersonal skills with teenagers and parents


      Preferred:

    • Current college counselor/advisor

    • Familiarity with working with diverse student populations (first generation, immigrant, minority, and low-income)

    • Experience working in schools, college access programs, or community based organizations

    Only candidates that submit a cover letter will be considered. Request for interviews with qualified candidates will start in early September. 

    Pay Range:

    $40/hour
