Position Information

Description & Details:

The Department of Coatings and Polymeric Materials at North Dakota State University is seeking a postdoctoral research associate to conduct research in the interdisciplinary field of artificial intelligence, machine learning, computer science, computational chemistry, computational biology and cheminformatics to investigate properties and design advanced functional materials. The Post-Doctoral researcher will be responsible for carrying out computational experiments, analyzing results and data with appropriate artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) methods, and have the ability to write python codes, scientific reports and manuscripts for publication, and deliver presentations at scientific meetings and/or to other interested parties.

The successful candidate should have demonstrated experience with one or several research areas such as the cheminformatics-based materials modeling, Explainable AI/ML models development, expertise in various machine learning methods, expertise in computer codes writing (python, C++), experience in web-applets development, polymeric materials and advanced functional materials investigation by AI/ML and computational methods. The post-doctoral researcher is also expected to assist in training and supervising student researchers, manage lab facilities, and perform other duties as requested by the PI. The initial appointment is for one year, with an opportunity for renewal for a second and third year depending on productivity and performance and the availability of funding.

8am-5pm

Hiring Range:

$45,000+

Pay is based on several factors, including budget, labor market, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and/or certification and other business considerations.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Holds an earned Ph.D. in Chemistry/Biology, Cheminformatics, Computational Chemistry, Computer Science or related disciplines.
  • Demonstrated experience in machine learning models development for organic compounds, polymeric materials and nanomaterials.
  • Demonstrated experience in development of complex and non-linear QSAR models
  • Knowledge of Python programming
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to write research papers and present work at various conferences

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience in cheminformatics/materials encoding techniques, polymeric materials predictive modeling, virtual library development, polymeric materials datasets development, AI/ML workflows development.
  • Knowledge of advanced Python programming for AI/ML modeling and specific cheminformatics tools, such as CDKit, RDKit, ChemAxon, KNIME.
  • Published papers on materials encoding, python codes developed
