Position Description

Advertised Job Summary

The Post-doctoral Research Associate will support a Duke Endowment-funded, interdisciplinary research project focused on developing and evaluating an AI-driven system for clinician burnout detection and intervention. Under the supervision of Dr. Sicheng Wang, the postdoctoral associate will lead and support multimodal data collection, data integration, predictive modeling, and digital intervention development. The position involves close collaboration with faculty, clinical partners, simulation centers, and student researchers. The role includes coordinating human-subject research activities, supporting project timelines and deliverables, and contributing to scholarly dissemination through peer-reviewed publications and presentations.

Job Related Minimum Required Education and Experience

  • Requires a Doctoral (Ph.D.) degree in area of research specialty by the start date of employment.

Required Certification, Licensure/Other Credentials Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with wearable biosensing or physiological data collection
  • Experience with virtual reality (VR) or simulation-based research
  • Experience with machine learning, deep learning, or multimodal data analysis
  • Experience conducting human-subject research and IRB-compliant studies
  • Experience working with healthcare systems or clinical populations
  • Experience in interdisciplinary research environments
  • CITI Human Subjects Research certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire)

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Strong programming and data analysis skills (e.g., Python, R)
  • Knowledge of research design and statistical analysis
  • Strong organizational and project management skills

Multimodal Data Collection and Research Implementation.

  • Design and implement data collection protocols integrating biometric sensors (e.g., HRV, GSR, skin temperature), VR-based simulation environments, and mobile-based GEMA tools
  • Coordinate and oversee participant data collection sessions in both simulation and real-world environments
  • Ensure proper setup, calibration, and functioning of wearable devices and VR systems during experiments
  • Monitor data quality in real time and troubleshoot technical issues during sessions
  • Maintain standardized procedures across participants to ensure consistency and reproducibility
  • Ensure all data collection activities comply with IRB and human-subject research protocols
