Must Have Technical/Functional Skills

  • Mandatory profile - candidates must demonstrate deep, recent hands-on engineering capability and architecture leadership:
  • 10+ years of progressively responsible full-stack engineering experience, including technical leadership of at least one enterprise POS implementation from architecture and build through pilot, store rollout, and production stabilization.
  • Expert-level, recent hands-on development experience in Java, Spring Boot, React, REST APIs, event-driven integration, and microservices; ability to design, code, review, troubleshoot, and optimize production-grade solutions.
  • Strong command of distributed-system design, domain-driven design, design patterns, API contracts, BDD, TDD, automated testing, CI/CD, observability, resiliency, and secure coding practices.
  • Deep experience with SQL and NoSQL data modeling, transaction integrity, performance tuning, and troubleshooting; practical exposure to Neo4j or other graph databases and MongoDB is preferred.
  • Proven experience designing for authentication, authorization, data protection, availability, scalability, offline operations, peripheral/device integration, telemetry, and failure recovery in store environments.
  • Strong cloud-native architecture and engineering experience in GCP, Azure, or AWS, with GCP preferred; advanced professional-level cloud certification is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated product implementation experience spanning configuration, customization, integration, data migration, deployment, cutover, hypercare, and production stabilization.
  • Strong retail and omnichannel domain knowledge, including POS, promotions, payments, tax, returns, inventory, order management, and store operations.
  • Exceptional architecture consulting, problem-solving, stakeholder communication, technical documentation, and team mentoring skills; able to influence senior business and technology leaders.
  • Preferred: experience with AI or generative AI, conversational interfaces, IoT, sensors, geolocation, or computer vision in retail use cases.
  • Interview expectation: shortlisted candidates will complete at least three technical interview rounds covering hands-on coding and debugging, system/POS architecture and design, and scenario-based technical leadership.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Own the end-to-end technical architecture and engineering delivery for the POS platform, from discovery and solution definition through build, pilot, enterprise store rollout, and stabilization.
  • Remain hands-on: create reference implementations, review critical code, diagnose complex defects, validate performance, and lead resolution of production incidents and edge cases.
  • Translate business capabilities and nonfunctional requirements into scalable microservices, integration, data, security, deployment, and observability designs.
  • Define architecture decisions, interface contracts, technical standards, guardrails, quality gates, and engineering practices; ensure traceability and compliance through delivery.
  • Lead design reviews, technical spikes, proofs of concept, capacity planning, threat modeling, failure-mode analysis, and go-live readiness assessments.
  • Partner with product, store operations, security, infrastructure, integration, QA, release, and support teams to manage dependencies, risks, and technical trade-offs.
  • Present options and recommendations to senior stakeholders with clear rationale, business impact, delivery risk, and measurable success criteria. Mentor engineers, raise code and design quality, address capability gaps, and establish reusable patterns that improve delivery speed, reliability, and maintainability.
  • Track and improve engineering outcomes such as defect leakage, service availability, response time, deployment quality, incident recovery, and rollout readiness.
