JOB CLASSIFICATION SUMMARY

This is the third level in a broad aquatic series. Incumbents are responsible for providing direct care for clients and the general public in their area of assignment. Specific duties include: managing pool operations, supervising staff, coordinating programs and events, ensuring safety standards, and providing customer service.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

This classification is distinguished from the Lifeguard and Swim Lesson Instructor classifications by the incumbents focusing on the overall management of pool operations, staff supervision, and program coordination. Pool Managers oversee lifeguards, swim instructors, and volunteer participants, ensuring all activities are conducted safely and efficiently. They also handle administrative tasks and customer service needs, whereas Lifeguards and Swim Lesson Instructors focus primarily on direct supervision and instruction. A Pool Manager reports to full-time staff members.

Examples of Duties

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

The following are intended to describe core work functions of this classification. While the level and broad nature of essential duties may not change, specific work tasks will vary over time depending on the Town's needs.

  • Assists in managing daily operations of the pool and its programming and events.
  • Provides on-deck supervision to lifeguards and supports them as necessary.
  • Manages volunteer Junior Lifeguard participants to assist with programming and events.
  • Supervises events and programming at the pool by assisting with setup, teardown, and ensuring the event runs smoothly.
  • Assists in annual review and planning of programs.
  • Conducts regular safety inspections of the pool area and assist in pump room maintenance.
  • Assists with any customer service needs from patrons. Manages and assists with pool and Ramada reservations.
  • Ensures all daily pool reports from lifeguards are complete and accurate.
  • Tracks inventory of programming and operational related items.
  • Assists with hiring and training of lifeguard and swim instructor staff. Mentors lifeguard staff and facilitates community-building efforts.
  • Attends local Arizona Aquatics professional development opportunities.
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

Typical Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (at job entry)

Education and Experience:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • High School Diploma or GED and a minimum of four (4) seasons as a Lifeguard or (2) year of related experience.
  • Supervisory experience is preferred.

LICENSING/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Valid Arizona Driver's License.
  • Current Lifeguard Certification (if expired, obtained within 6 months of hire or promotion date)
  • Lifeguard Instructor Certification (obtained within 6 months of hire or promotion date)
  • Swim Instructor Certification (obtained within 6 months of hire or promotion date)

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

This position has been identified as a safety-sensitive position by Human Resources, per State and/or Federal Law. Upon conditional offer of employment, the candidate selected will be required to undergo testing for alcohol and controlled substances within twenty-four (24) hours of the offer.
