    Job Description

    The Pool and Exercise Specialist will lead and instruct participants of varying age and abilities in aquatic and group exercise. This position requires pool management and maintenance education and skills and is a safety sensitive position.

    Responsibilities include:

    Leads and instructs participants of varying age and abilities in aquatic and group exercise using proper techniques and cues during warm-up, Aerobic Component, Cool-down, Muscle Conditioning, and final cool down, stretching, and relaxation.

    Follows and performs aquatic exercise, home, and group exercise programs for all personal training, medically integrated, and physical therapy participants, and communicates patient response, progress, and limiting factors consistently to the specific referral source.

    Uses proper techniques and cues during exercises to ensure participants will understand, follow along, and avoid contraindicated exercise movements to prevent injuries.

    Educates participants about injury prevention and provides modifications when necessary.

    Assists patients with transfer via wheelchair, pool chair, or stretcher as required.

    Ensures adherence to all Universal Precautions and hospital Infection Control policies.

    Assists in the development and revision of classes and instruction to enhance participant safety and satisfaction, including music selection with appropriate tempo and count format blocks.

    Responsible to evaluate each participant’s ability to take part in an exercise program, and design and implement personal training programs and exercises to match level of ability.

    Responsible for supervision of pool operations, scheduling, coordination of staff assignments in the absence of the facility director.

    Responds quickly to all emergency situations using proper procedures and techniques consistent with rehabilitation policies and American Red Cross.

    Performs daily monitoring of pump, filter, pool chemicals, and cleanliness of water, pool, and deck areas to maintain optimal operations.
    Adjusts pool chemistry to maintain optimal balance.

    Performs and delegates daily cleaning tasks, monitoring and maintenance of pool, decking, exercise area, and locker rooms as needed.

    Performs inventory and ordering of chemicals, supplies, and laundry, and assists supervisor with draining, refilling, and maintenance of the pool.

    Ensures proper use of pool, exercise equipment, and supplies, and notifies supervisor and engineering staff of any damage of faulty equipment, tags and removes from use.

    Attends educational in-services on exercise, wellness, or rehab-related topics, and performs an in-service to department upon return.

    Participates in the educational and quality improvement activities via data collection.

    Gathers, organizes, and displays exercise and health-related information for pool and group exercise participants in display areas.

    Assists in the onboarding and training of new staff members.

    Promotes Hampshire Wellness and Fitness services in the community via health fairs, support groups, etc., as assigned.

    Education
    Four-year degree in an Exercise-related field OR Personal Trainer Certification required

    Experience
    Experience working with patients in a physical rehabilitation recommended Certification by Aquatic

    Certification & Licensures
    Red Cross in Certified Lifeguard, and CPR for Professional Rescuer (ARC) required within 90 days of hire

    Certification in pool operations or aquatic facility operations preferred within 6-months of hire (CPO)

    Group exercise Instructor certification (AFAA, ACE, or ACSM) required OR Personal Trainer Certification

    Qualifications
    Demonstrates professionalism in dress, demeanor, promptness, and knowledge of fitness.

    Motivating, enthusiastic, caring, and diplomatic when working with participants.

    Competent in various choreography styles and class formats incorporating the professional fitness guidelines.

    Ability to assess participants' skill level and adapt instructional methods according to class or individual needs.

    Demonstrates good organizational and time management skills to effectively balance community programs, patient treatment, documentation, and maintenance of equipment on a daily basis.
