    Position Summary

    Applicants must have passed or be able to pass the pre-enrollment requirements for the MCOLES Basic Training Academy (Reading and Writing Test, Pre-Enrollment Physical Fitness Test). Others encouraged to apply are: Certified Police Officers in the State of Michigan, those Certifiable as a Police Officer in the State of Michigan, subject to verification or re-verification by a Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES) approved training academy and those currently enrolled in an MCOLES approved training academy and certifiable by date of hire. Must be at least 21 years of age.

    Duties:

    • Attend and complete required training at the police academy.
    • Learn and demonstrate proficiency in state and federal laws, local ordinances, and police department policies.
    • Participate in practical exercises, including physical fitness training, firearms instruction, and emergency response scenarios.
    • Shadow experienced officers to observe patrol techniques and community interaction.
    • Study and pass examinations on criminal law, investigation techniques, and ethical standards. Maintain physical and mental readiness for law enforcement duties. Perform other training-related duties as assigned.

    Minimum Requirements

    • High school diploma or equivalent.

    • Additional education or experience satisfied through either:

    • Associate's degree.

    • Completion of 24 semester credit (or term equivalency) hours of college level coursework (some military course credits may be used for equivalency) and two years of active or completed military commitment in good standing.

    • Must be able to meet all MCOLES certification/licensing requirements.

    • Must be 21 years of age at the time of graduation from the academy.
