This position is located the 161st in Phoenix, Arizona. The primary purpose of this position is to protect Federal property from hazards such as sabotage, espionage, trespass, theft, fire, and accident or willful damage and destruction. To maintain law and order, preserve the peace, and protect life and civil rights within the jurisdiction of the military installation.

  • ARIZONA AIR NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED. Prior to appointment into this position, selectee must be a current member of the Arizona Air National Guard, in a military position assigned to 161st.
  • This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guar, required prior to the effective date of placement.
  • Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
  • Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.
  • Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement.
  • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
  • May be required to successfully complete a trial period.
  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
  • Incumbent must possess and maintain a current state driver's license.
  • Individual selected will receive an Indefinite Appointment and may be converted to permanent based on availability of funds or position no longer being encumbered.
  • For positions requiring the operation of motor vehicles, candidates must have a valid state driver's license for the state in which they live or are principally employed.
  • The maximum entry age for DoD Law Enforcement is 37. An individual not appointed by the last day of the month in which the individual becomes age 37 will not be originally appointed or assigned to these positions.
  • Employee may work an uncommon tour of duty to include nights, weekends, holidays, rotating shifts and subject to recall.
  • May need to wear special protective clothing such as coats, boots, vests, gas masks, helmets and hearing protection. May be exposed to high levels of noise such as aircraft engines.
  • Incumbent must know how to operate all Security Forces Vehicles and installed equipment.
  • Incumbent must maintain current qualifications in the use of required weapons.
  • Incumbent is exposed to the day-to-day dangers associated with law enforcement and security duties. The ability to employ "Active Shooter" response tactics and techniques, as a member of a small team, is required.
  • Incumbent is required to obtain first responder training/certifications in CPR techniques, self-aid buddy care, and first-aid skills and complete annual recertifications.
  • While wearing protective gear for extended periods of time, employ 'infantry/SWAT' small unit tactics involving weapon fire and maneuvers, with rapid advancing movements between defensive positions.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:.

Must possess at least 1 year experience that provided knowledge of a body of basic laws and regulations, law enforcement operations, practices, and techniques and involved responsibility for maintaining order and protecting life and property. Creditable specialized experience may have been gained in work on a police force; through service as a military police officer; in work providing visitor protection and law enforcement in parks, forests, or other natural resource or recreational environments; in performing criminal investigative duties; or in other work that provided the required knowledge and skills.

  3. Knowledge of firearms and tactics utilized in emergency situations.

  4. Knowledge of emergency services, tactics, and procedures to include, weapons and chemical agents, negotiations, building layouts, terrorist threats and counter terrorism methods, search and rescue techniques, crowd and demonstration control, etc.

  5. Ability to gather facts and use effective, analytical, and established methods to accurately assess a situation and determine the appropriate course of action.
