Police Officers safeguard the lives and property of Coatesville’s residents while fostering public trust through proactive, community -oriented policing. Duties include routine patrol, emergency response, preliminary and follow -up investigations, traffic enforcement, report writing, courtroom testimony, and participation in outreach initiatives such as youth mentorship and safety workshops. Officers work 10 - or 12 -hour shifts that rotate to ensure 24/7 coverage.<\/span><\/span>

  • Patrol assigned districts by foot and vehicle, responding to emergency and non -emergency calls.<\/span>
    <\/span><\/p><\/li>

  • Investigate crimes, gather evidence, interview witnesses, and prepare detailed reports.<\/span>
    <\/span><\/p><\/li>

  • Enforce traffic laws; conduct crash investigations and DUI enforcement.<\/span>
    <\/span><\/p><\/li>

  • Testify in criminal and traffic court proceedings.<\/span>
    <\/span><\/p><\/li>

  • Engage in community programs—Shop with a Cop, SafeRide car -seat clinics, Coffee with the Chief—to strengthen police -community relations.<\/span>

  • Operate and maintain department -issued equipment, including body -worn cameras, in -car computers, and radar/LIDAR units.<\/span>

    Requirements<\/h3>
    • U.S. citizen, at least <\/span>21 years old<\/b> <\/span>at time of appointment (testing may begin at 18).
      <\/p><\/li>

    • High -school diploma or GED; college coursework in criminal justice preferred.
      <\/p><\/li>

    • Valid Pennsylvania driver’s license.
      <\/p><\/li>

    • Ability to establish residency within <\/span>35 miles<\/b> <\/span>of Coatesville within six months of hire.
      <\/p><\/li>

    • Free of disqualifying criminal convictions and domestic -violence prohibitions.
      <\/p><\/li>

    • Successful completion of written exam, physical -agility test (MPOETC standards), oral board, background investigation, polygraph, medical, psychological, and drug screening.
      <\/p><\/li>

    • Act 120 certification <\/span>or<\/b> <\/span>willingness to attend a City -funded police academy.<\/p>
