General SummaryThe Police Cadet is a dynamic and critical position within the department. Cadets will attend a certified police academy, gaining the knowledge, skills, and experience needed to serve and protect the community. This program offers a direct pathway into law enforcement while fostering leadership, accountability, and public service. Important Application RequirementTo be considered for academy sponsorship, applicants must have successfully completed the following prior to application:MCOLES Reading & Writing TestMCOLES Physical Agility TestProof of completion must be submitted with your application. Reasonable accommodations are available upon request.️ Principal Duties & ResponsibilitiesComplete all training and curriculum requirements at a recognized Michigan police academyLearn and apply professional policing principles, procedures, and case lawParticipate in community outreach and public service eventsAssist with documentation, evidence handling, and administrative tasksMaintain departmental equipment and uphold ethical standards Minimum QualificationsAt least 21 years of ageHigh school diploma or GEDCompletion of MCOLES reading, writing, and physical agility testsCompletion of the EMPCO test (proof required at time of application)Valid Michigan driver's licenseU.S. CitizenshipStrong communication, decision-making, and teamwork skillsAbility to pass a background check, psychological evaluation, interview, and drug/alcohol screeningNo felony convictions or disqualifying criminal historyWillingness to work varied shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays Physical DemandsThis role requires physical strength, stamina, and agility.
