Plumbing Service Technician

Position Summary
American Mechanical Services is seeking an experienced plumbing service technician to join our growing Charleston team.
This position is intended for a technician with at least two to three years of directly related plumbing experience who can diagnose common plumbing problems, communicate professionally with customers, and complete service work with limited supervision.
Our work includes residential and commercial service, repairs, renovations, equipment replacement, preventive maintenance, and mechanical construction throughout Charleston and the surrounding Lowcountry.
We are looking for someone who takes pride in quality workmanship, provides honest recommendations, documents work thoroughly, and wants a long-term position with opportunities to grow.
Responsibilities
- Diagnose residential and commercial plumbing problems.
- Perform fixture, faucet, valve, toilet, and piping repairs.
- Diagnose and repair water leaks, drain problems, and water-pressure concerns.
- Service and replace water heaters, pumps, and related plumbing equipment.
- Perform drain cleaning and investigate recurring drainage problems.
- Evaluate plumbing systems and clearly explain findings and repair options.
- Identify code, safety, or reliability concerns while on site.
- Prepare accurate material lists and job information.
- Obtain authorization before completing work outside the approved scope.
- Complete detailed service reports, photographs, time entries, and required documentation.
- Coordinate professionally with customers, dispatch, management, contractors, and other trades.
- Maintain assigned tools, materials, equipment, and company vehicles.
- Keep work areas clean, organized, and safe.
- Follow applicable plumbing codes, manufacturer requirements, and company procedures.
- Participate in the rotating on-call schedule when assigned.
Required Experience and Qualifications
- Minimum of two to three years of directly related plumbing experience.
- Ability to diagnose and complete common plumbing service work with limited supervision.
- Working knowledge of fixtures, water heaters, pumps, drainage systems, water distribution piping, and plumbing repairs.
- Ability to communicate findings and recommendations honestly and professionally.
- Ability to read plans, specifications, equipment literature, and applicable code information.
- Valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.
- Dependable attendance and reliable transportation to the assigned reporting location.
- Ability to use a smartphone or tablet for dispatching, photographs, reports, and job documentation.
- Ability to safely use ladders, hand tools, power tools, drain equipment, and other plumbing tools.
- Ability to work in crawl spaces, mechanical rooms, outdoor environments, and other typical service conditions.
- Professional appearance and conduct.
- Plumbing license or additional trade certifications are helpful but not required.

Schedule and Service Area
- Full-time position.
- Primarily Monday through Friday.
- Overtime may be available or required depending on workload.
- Rotating on-call participation may be required.
- In-person work throughout Charleston and the surrounding Lowcountry.
- This is not a remote position.
