B&I Contractors, Inc., a proud five-time winner of the Great Place to Work award, is seeking an experienced and dedicated Plumbing QC Inspector to join our dynamic and expanding team.
ROLE SUMMARY:
The Plumbing Quality Control Inspector is the trade-specific inspection, verification, documentation, and field-coaching resource for commercial plumbing work. The Inspector independently verifies that installations comply with contract documents, approved submittals, manufacturer requirements, applicable codes, and B&I quality standards. The role documents deficiencies, verifies corrective-action closure, and supports testing, commissioning, and turnover readiness. Field leadership remains accountable for installation quality and correction of deficient work.
Quality Strategy and Role Boundaries
- QC verifies and coaches. The Inspector evaluates readiness and conformance, documents objective findings, and provides technical guidance.
- Operations owns execution. Superintendents and Foremen direct installation activities and are accountable for correcting deficiencies.
- Project Management enables the process by supporting inspection scheduling, access, documentation, and closure of project requirements.
- The Regional QC Manager coordinates regional consistency, workload, reporting, and escalation. The Plumbing Manager maintains direct trade ownership and technical alignment.
- Dedicated or shared project coverage is assigned according to risk, complexity, contractual requirements, and workload.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Field Inspection and Verification
- Perform first-work, routine, milestone, pre-concealment, and readiness inspections for plumbing systems, fixtures, equipment, and service connections.
- Verify work against current drawings, specifications, approved submittals, RFIs/ASIs, coordinated models, manufacturer instructions, and applicable codes.
- Inspect domestic water, sanitary waste and vent, storm drainage, natural gas, medical gas where applicable, fixtures, equipment connections, supports, sleeves, penetrations, valves, specialties, identification, access, cleanliness, and trade interfaces.
- Apply required inspection checkpoints and hold points before concealment, insulation, testing, startup, or turnover when acceptance criteria are not met.
- Coordinate inspection timing with the Superintendent, Foreman, Project Manager, Plumbing Manager, and Regional QC Manager.
ACC Documentation and Corrective Action
- Complete assigned trade-specific QC checklists and inspection records in Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC) at the point of work.
- Create deficiencies in ACC with a clear description, exact location, responsible party, due date, supporting photo, and drawing reference when applicable.
- Track open deficiencies, reinspect completed corrections, and close items only after conformance has been verified.
- Maintain pressure-test, disinfection, flushing, cleaning, brazing, equipment readiness, startup, and other required quality records.
- Provide concise status updates on completed inspections, open issues, overdue corrections, recurring failure points, and emerging risks.
Preconstruction, Testing, Commissioning, and Turnover
- Participate in project kickoff, preconstruction QC alignment, constructability, coordination, and project-specific quality planning as assigned.
- Identify high-risk installations, special inspection needs, and required quality checkpoints before work begins.
- Witness or verify required tests and confirm that test documentation is complete and traceable.
- Coordinate with commissioning and startup personnel to verify readiness for functional testing and system startup.
- Support turnover by confirming required checklists, test reports, deficiency closure, and as-built documentation are complete.
Coaching and Continuous Improvement
- Coach Foremen on installation standards, checklist use, recurring failure points, and rework prevention.
- Communicate recurring issues and lessons learned so standards, checklists, SOPs, and training can be improved.
- Maintain professional communication with project teams, customers, inspectors, subcontractors, and commissioning partners.
- Escalate unresolved, repeated, or high-risk quality conditions through established QC and operational leadership channels.
Performance Expectations
- Assigned inspections and checklists are completed accurately and on schedule.
- Deficiencies are documented with enough detail for prompt correction and verified through closure.
- Testing and turnover records are complete, traceable, and stored in the approved project system.
- Recurring issues and trends are communicated to leadership and converted into preventive action, checklist updates, or training.
- Field teams receive timely, practical coaching that supports consistent execution and reduced rework.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Five or more years of commercial plumbing field experience or an equivalent combination of relevant education, certification, and experience.
- Knowledge of domestic water, sanitary waste and vent, storm drainage, equipment connections, supports, valves, specialties, pressure testing, disinfection, flushing, and system readiness.
- Ability to interpret contract drawings, specifications, approved submittals, shop drawings, coordinated models, RFIs/ASIs, and manufacturer instructions.
- Ability to identify nonconforming work, communicate findings clearly, and verify corrections without directing the installation workforce.
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365, iPad-based field tools, ACC, and digital photo and document management.
- Ability to travel to assigned sites and work in active construction environments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Quality control, Foreman, Superintendent, or field leadership experience.
- OSHA 30 certification.
