PLC Technician Traveling Field Service (Industrial Controls & Automation)
Overview
We are seeking a hands-on, highly motivated PLC Technician for an immediate direct hire opportunity based out of Louisville, KY. This is not your typical maintenance rolethis is a road warrior position (80100% travel) supporting complex industrial systems across the country.
In this role, youll be on the front lines troubleshooting, modifying, and optimizing PLC-controlled systems tied to large-scale rotating equipment and high-temperature industrial processes. Location: Louisville, KY (training/home base)
Pay Rate: $27 $30/hour + overtime (time and a half)
Travel: 80100% domestic (all expenses covered + per diem)
Key Responsibilities- Troubleshoot, modify, and support PLC systems (Allen-Bradley and Siemens) in field environments
- Assist with PLC programming updates and system improvements
- Perform electrical and instrumentation troubleshooting on industrial equipment
- Support HMI development and interface troubleshooting
- Diagnose and repair issues on large rotating equipment such as kilns, dryers, and burners
- Read and interpret electrical and mechanical blueprints for troubleshooting and repair
- Assist with control panel builds, wiring, and on-site system integration
- Perform multi-craft maintenance tasks across electrical and mechanical systems
- Travel to client sites nationwide to support installation, commissioning, and repairs
- Work extended hours in the field (1012 hour days typical during travel assignments)
- Collaborate with engineering and service teams to resolve complex technical issues
Required Skills and Qualifications- 3+ years of experience as a PLC Technician or similar role
- Strong troubleshooting experience with PLC systems (Allen-Bradley and Siemens)
- Experience with HMI systems and basic development or modification
- Solid background in electrical and instrumentation troubleshooting
- General industrial maintenance experience with an electrical focus
- Ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical blueprints
- Self-starter who can work independently with minimal supervision
- Willingness and enthusiasm for extensive travel (80100%)
- Strong problem-solving mindset with a figure it out attitude
Preferred Skills- Multi-craft experience (both electrical and mechanical maintenance)
- Experience working with rotating equipment such as kilns, dryers, or mills
- Background in combustion systems or high-temperature industrial processes
- Experience with panel building, wiring, and field commissioning
- Previous field service or travel-based technical role
