PLC Controls Engineer — Wire & Cable Manufacturing

Your day at Prysmian

Step onto the production floor where high-speed wire and cable lines hum with activity. You’ll be the go-to expert for PLCs and the computer software that keep our equipment running. In one moment, you’re refining control logic to improve throughput; in the next, you’re guiding electricians through an AC/DC drive issue, or reviewing a schematic down to the component to get a critical asset back online.

What you’ll own

• Primary responsibility for all PLC and computer software that support production equipment.
• Deepen and apply expertise in wire and cable manufacturing equipment, processes, and best practices.
• Provide hands-on engineering direction to Maintenance for electrical/electronic equipment reliability.
• Lead assigned projects end-to-end: estimates, designs/specifications, approvals, procurement, installation, commissioning, cost control, safety, and full implementation.
• Coordinate and manage external electrical engineering, construction, and consulting partners.
• Oversee outsourced repairs for critical electronic components to ensure quality and uptime.
• Partner with the Engineering & Maintenance Manager on annual capital and expense budgeting for management review.
• Develop, write, and debug control logic for machine control; introduce design improvements to complex electrical, electronic, and mechanical systems.
• Interpret and analyze electrical schematics to the component level to diagnose and restore equipment to service.
• Use programming tools to analyze PLC code for failures, optimization opportunities, and reliability.
• Provide guidance to electricians for troubleshooting, repair, and programming of AC/DC drive systems.
• Troubleshoot with modern methods, including electrical test instrumentation and computerized diagnostics.
• Ensure all control programs and configurations are documented and securely backed up in a safe repository.
• Implement, maintain, and fully understand industrial network communications.

What you bring

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical/Electronics Engineering; an Associate degree in Electrical/Electronics is preferred for equivalent paths.
• 5+ years of manufacturing experience (wire & cable background strongly preferred).
• Advanced computer proficiency including PLC programming and CAD; Wonderware experience is a plus.
