Plastic Injection Molding Project Manager 

Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Plastic Injection Molding Project Manager to lead and coordinate tooling initiatives for plastic injection molding products. The role focuses on managing tooling projects from concept through production, ensuring molds meet quality, cost, and schedule targets. The ideal candidate will combine hands-on tooling experiencemold maintenance and repair, reading CAD drawings, and supporting tooling buildswith strong project management and communication skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, lead, and execute tooling projects for plastic injection molded parts from specification through production release.
  • Coordinate cross-functional teams including design, manufacturing, quality, procurement, and suppliers to ensure tooling designs meet requirements and timelines.
  • Review and interpret CAD drawings and tooling specifications; provide actionable feedback to internal teams and external toolmakers.
  • Manage mold build, validation, and tryout activities, including scheduling, tracking milestones, and reporting project status to stakeholders.
  • Oversee mold maintenance and repair activities; develop preventative maintenance plans and ensure rapid resolution of tool failures to minimize downtime.
  • Develop and maintain bills of materials, tooling change orders, and technical documentation associated with molds and tooling assets.
  • Work with suppliers and contract toolmakers to negotiate schedules, costs, and technical details; perform supplier audits and assessments when needed.
  • Identify and mitigate project risks, resolve technical issues, and implement corrective actions to maintain product quality and delivery commitments.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to tooling processes, design for manufacturability, and cost reduction efforts.
  • Provide training and mentorship to junior engineering and tooling staff on mold maintenance, tooling best practices, and project management processes.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience managing tooling projects for plastic injection molding, including hands-on mold maintenance and repair.
  • Proven ability to read and interpret CAD drawings and tooling specifications (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo, or equivalent).
  • Strong knowledge of plastic injection molding processes, materials, and tooling considerations.
  • Experience coordinating with external toolmakers and managing supplier relationships.
  • Demonstrated project management skills with experience tracking schedules, budgets, risk, and cross-functional communication.
  • Familiarity with tooling documentation, change control, and preventive maintenance planning.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.
