    Title: Plant Modelling Engineer
    Location: Warren, Michigan

    Job Summary

    We are seeking a Plant Modeling Engineer (PME) to support Virtual Engineering initiatives focused on the development of sensor and actuator models for vehicle systems. This role will be responsible for creating and maintaining virtual assets used for calibration, verification, and validation of embedded controllers across propulsion, electrification, transmission, and chassis systems. The ideal candidate will have experience with model-based development, simulation environments, and cross-functional collaboration in a vehicle development environment.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Develop sensor and actuator plant models using Simulink and other virtual engineering tools.
    • Create and maintain virtual assets for Vehicle-in-the-Loop (ViL), Hardware-in-the-Loop (HiL), Software-in-the-Loop (SiL), and co-simulation environments.
    • Read and interpret electrical schematics, circuit diagrams, and control system documentation.
    • Define and execute model validation and test cases based on system requirements and customer feedback.
    • Support data acquisition activities to characterize device performance and diagnostic behavior.
    • Manage model enhancements, releases, testing, technical documentation, and change management activities.
    • Define virtualization requirements and collaborate with controls, hardware, software, validation, and calibration teams.
    • Coordinate development activities across vehicle and propulsion domains to ensure model consistency and robustness.
    • Translate calibration and system variations into scalable and reusable model architectures.
    • Support integration of models into simulation and development environments.

    Required Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
    • 2+ years of experience in modeling, simulation, controls, or virtual engineering.
    • Experience with MATLAB/Simulink and model-based development.
    • Ability to read and understand electrical schematics and control system architectures.
    • Knowledge of communication protocols such as CAN, LIN, SPI, Ethernet, or similar.
    • Familiarity with requirements management tools and simulation environments.
    • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Master's degree in a related engineering discipline.
    • 5+ years of relevant industry experience.
    • Knowledge of vehicle propulsion, electrification, embedded controls, or automotive systems.
    • Experience with simulation tools such as Simscape, GT-Power, SABER, dSPACE, or equivalent platforms.
    • Familiarity with version control tools such as Git, SVN, or TFS.
    • Experience with calibration, measurement, and diagnostic tools.
