We are seeking a hands-on Plant Accountant to support the accounting and financial operations of our manufacturing facility in Fort Lawn, SC.
This position is ideal for an accountant with experience in manufacturing, inventory, cost accounting, and full-cycle accounting who is interested in taking broader ownership of a plant-level accounting function.
The Plant Accountant will be responsible for day-to-day accounting, monthly closing, inventory and cost analysis, AP/AR oversight, financial reporting, and coordination with our corporate finance team.
The successful candidate should be comfortable working closely with operations, production, purchasing, warehouse, and management teams in a hands-on manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities• Manage and maintain the plant's general ledger and day-to-day accounting activities.
• Prepare monthly financial statements and supporting schedules.
• Perform month-end and year-end closing procedures.
• Reconcile bank accounts, balance sheet accounts, inventory accounts, and other general ledger accounts.
• Manage and review accounts payable and accounts receivable activities.
• Monitor customer collections and vendor payments.
• Maintain accurate raw material, work-in-process, and finished-goods inventory records.
• Perform inventory reconciliations and investigate discrepancies.
• Support cycle counts and physical inventories.
• Analyze manufacturing costs, including raw materials, labor, overhead, and other production expenses.
• Review product costing, inventory valuation, COGS, and manufacturing variances.
• Work closely with production and warehouse personnel to improve inventory and cost-accounting controls.
• Assist with purchasing, receiving, production, shipping, and inventory-accounting workflows.
• Prepare regular financial and operational reports for plant management and corporate finance.
• Assist with budgeting, forecasting, cash-flow planning, and variance analysis.
• Maintain appropriate accounting documentation and internal controls.
• Coordinate with outside accountants, auditors, banks, tax professionals, and other service providers as needed.
• Assist management with improving accounting processes, reporting systems, and operational controls.
Qualifications• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field preferred.
• Approximately 3+ years of accounting experience.
• Manufacturing accounting experience strongly preferred.
• Experience with inventory accounting and cost accounting highly desirable.
• Strong understanding of general ledger accounting, AP, AR, monthly close, and financial statements.
• Experience with QuickBooks, Sage, or similar accounting/ERP systems.
• Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
• Ability to work independently and take ownership of the accounting function.
• Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Comfortable working directly with manufacturing, production, warehouse, and operational teams.
• Good communication and organizational skills.
