Definition of Class

  • This is a professional position responsible for the assisting with the coordination, administration and execution of planning activities within one of the following planning program areas: Coastal Zone Management, Community Development Block Grants, Land Use Planning, Environmental Sustainability, Municipal Assistance, Parks & Recreation or Housing Rehabilitation. The professional in this class coordinates and performs activities with local, state and federal agencies, in accordance with current Federal and state rulemaking establishing the required decision-making framework and cooperative processes in the applicable planning program area.
  • The position requires a responsible professional who is capable of working both as a member of a team and independently. This position will receive direction from the Planning Program Administrator. Management and supervision will be received from the Director of the Department of Planning and Community Development. The Director may assign additional work tasks within any of the planning program areas.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Responsibilities include working in conjunction with the Planning Program Administrator to find, research, implement planning programs and projects. This position will assist the administrator with the management, administration, monitoring of projects and programs. The position will assist with seeking eligible projects in compliance with program guidance and requirements. Responsibilities will include reviewing and understanding grant funding requirements from local, state and federal sources and seeking technical assistance from funding agencies as needed. The position will involve professional contact with government officials and the general public to assist in the discussion of plans and policies in order to seek cooperation and participation in the planning process. This position will assist with the closeout reporting and meeting other grant management requirements.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Basic knowledge of the principles and practices of planning, including knowledge of research methodology Familiarity and awareness with the applicable planning program area is preferred.
  • Ability to extract, organize, analyze and present data, and express ideas clearly and concisely in oral, written and graphic form.
  • High level technical competence with Microsoft software is required.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, staff of other agencies, public officials and the general public
  • Use good judgement and initiative
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at the same time Ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor''s Degree in Planning or related field
  • Must have a Valid Driver''s License

Supervision Received

  • Reports to Director of the Department of Planning and Community Development
