Job Summary
Under the general supervision of the Planning & Development Services Assistant Director, provides for management of planning staff to ensure the well-planned and attractive development of the City. With minimum supervision, carries out all responsibilities in accordance with established departmental policies & procedures. Exercises significant levels of judgment and initiative. Applies knowledge and expertise to solve complex issues. Frequently interfaces with City management, City Council members, citizen board and commission members, citizens, and the development community.
Essential Job Functions and Other Important Duties
Job Qualifications
Formal Education: Bachelor's degree in planning, Geography, Sociology, Urban Studies, Historic Preservation, and/or related field.
Relatable Work Experience: Five (5) years of experience in the administration of local codes and ordinances involving the review and development of planning recommendations. Master's degree shall substitute for 1 year of experience.
Training, Licenses, and Certifications: None required.
Preferred Qualifications: American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification.
Disclaimer: Unless otherwise stated, applicants are permitted to substitute two years of related full-time experience for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience in order to meet the minimum requirements of the job. One year of full-time experience is define as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months. One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university.
