The Pipeline Engineer position is based out of our Kinderhawk office located at 9580 Saint Vincent Avenue, Shreveport, LA  71106.  This is a typical Monday through Friday position with potential on-call responsibilities nights and weekends.  Kinder Morgan offers a robust benefits package including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, two retirement plans, paid holidays, and paid time off.

Primary purpose:

  • Support installation, maintenance, and operation of new & existing gas gathering plant operations through process optimization, improved efficiency, and identification of opportunities to improve overall operating area performance as well as safety, operability, and reliability

Essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Evaluate, prepare and analyze designs of process systems including NGL recovery plants, amine treating plants, glycol dehydration, molecular sieve dehydration, propane refrigeration, condensate stabilization, inlet compression, & residue compression
  • Design gas and liquid pipelines, meter stations, compressor stations, and pump stations
  • Develop single and multi-phase gas hydraulic models and gathering system evaluations
  • Develop station process simulations and material & energy balances using ProMax software
  • Size and specify mechanical equipment, including separators, filters, tanks, heat exchangers, air coolers, pumps, towers, heaters, compressors, control valves, treaters, and dehydrators
  • Specify appropriate piping materials, diameters, and thicknesses to meet design requirements
  • Possess knowledge of midstream process controls and instrumentation, including controls narrativeand cause & effect matrices
  • Model and evaluate gas plants and suggest efficiency and debottlenecking projects
  • Provide technical support for startups, troubleshooting, and plant expansions
  • Participate in PHA/Hazop studies/PSSR as necessary for both new and existing facilities
  • Facilitate and lead Management of Change (MOC) requirements
  • Assist applicable parties to establish facility start-up (including PSSR), commissioning, and operating procedures.
  • Complete and/or validate facility flare & PSV studies using KM’s OPP Tool
  • Perform Facility PFD/P&ID development & reviews as needed
  • Work closely with Project Managers regarding Front-End process design, finalizing H&MB & overall major project scope; assist in evaluations of changes in basis of design as necessary
  • Provide technical support to operations (including troubleshooting, debottlenecking and optimization, maintenance projects, PHA participation and action item resolution, DOT/PHMSA/LADNR compliance, etc.)
  • Provides technical assistance in the form of written reports, consultation, research, process debottlenecking studies, & code interpretations
  • Investigates and resolves problems associated with new or existing facilities and their process design, including conducting research into project-related issues and finding equipment needed for a project
  • Initiate and manage optimization review projects to enhance safety, run time, and/or operating income
  • Proactively seek opportunities to learn and develop and to find solutions for maximizing value to the business unit
  • Continuously review assets to enhance safety, mechanical reliability, operational flexibility, and capacity
  • Consult with environmental personnel and provide information that is pertinent to the facility's environmental permits that are required
  • Complete appropriate documentation and paperwork
  • Perform all work in compliance with Company standards, procedures, regulatory and tariff requirements
  • Work safely when performing duties while fully embracing safety programs including but not limited to safety observations, job safety analysis, last minute risk assessments, safe driving, cell phone policy, etc.
  • Respond timely in communications

  • Education:

    • BS degree in Chemical & Mechanical Engineering from 4-year accredited university

    Experience / specific knowledge:

    • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in natural gas gathering, compression, processing, dehydration, fractionation, construction, and/or operations
    • Possess fundamental knowledge of midstream gas gathering and processing operations, including pig liquids handling, compression, glycol and desiccant dehydration, treating, hydrocarbon recovery, and condensate stabilization
    • Possess knowledge of codes, standards, regulations and best practices applicable to the midstream industry (including API, ASME B31.3/4/8 and VIII, DOT 192/5, NFPA, etc.)
    • Perform process simulation and pipeline modeling experience with HYSYS, PROMAX, WinSim, WinFlow, Synergee, FlareNet, or similar applications
    • Possess knowledge and experience with rotating equipment

    Certifications, licenses, registrations:

    • Must possess and maintain valid driver's license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers
    • Achieve and maintain all qualifications, certifications, and progression requirements applicable to the job classification
    • Completion of any site-specific technical training that may be assigned

    Competencies, skills, and abilities:

    • Strong work ethic with demonstrated ability to effectively work with minimum supervision
    • Must respond to, and address, callouts and emergencies during and after regular business hours including after dark hours, which requires carrying a communication device
    • Ability to complete work assignments with minimal supervision in an acceptable time frame
    • Solid computer skills to include Microsoft Office Software (Excel, Word, Powerpoint), MS Project, Maximo, etc.
    • Ability to interpret and design Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), Plot Plans, Piping Plans, and Piping Isometrics
    • Ability to interface effectively with all levels within the company as well as organizations outside the company
    • Experience in process modeling applications such as HYSYS, PROMAX, or VMGSim
    • Must be able to learn, understand, and apply new technologies
    • Ability to effectively prioritize andexecute tasks in a high-pressure environment is crucial
