Position Summary:
We are seeking experienced Technical Trainers to deliver hands-on and classroom instruction across multiple skilled-trades disciplines supporting shipbuilding operations. This role is responsible for training new hires and upskilling experienced employees, reinforcing quality and safety standards, and maintaining training documentation.
Trainer Disciplines: Candidates should have strong experience in one or more of the following:
- Welding (Pipe/Marine): GTAW (stainless & cupronickel), plus SMAW/FCAW
- Pipefitting (Marine): cutting/fitting, joint types, blueprint/drawing interpretation, tolerances, bending/fabrication
- Electrical (Marine/Industrial): electrical safety, absence of voltage, arc flash, ESD practices, procedures
- Sheet Metal (Marine): layout, measurement, fabrication techniques, hands-on instruction
- Paint/Insulation (Marine): coatings surface prep and application methods; insulation fundamentals (AMPP preferred)
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver on-the-job and classroom training in assigned trade area(s)
- Demonstrate proper techniques, tooling, and safe work practices
- Assess trainee progress and readiness; provide coaching and corrective guidance
- Maintain training records and support compliance/certification tracking
- Partner with stakeholders to improve training materials and programs
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED
- 5+ years of relevant trade experience in at least one specialty listed above
- Ability to instruct, demonstrate, and evaluate practical skills in a training environment
- Strong communication and documentation skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior “train-the-trainer” experience
- Marine/shipyard environment experience
- Trade certifications (where applicable); AMPP for coatings a plus
