Pilot Plant Operator / Laboratory Technician
We are seeking a hands-on Pilot Plant Operator / Laboratory Technician to support its analytical and process development laboratory in Magnolia, TX. This position will operate a lab-scale pilot plant, monitor and document process conditions, make operational adjustments, collect and prepare samples, and perform routine physical and chemical testing.
The pilot process will operate continuously during approximately two-week trial periods, requiring team members to work rotating 8-hour shifts to provide 24/7 coverage. At least four pilot trials are currently anticipated.
Responsibilities
- Operate and monitor lab-scale pilot plant equipment and continuous processes.
- Record process conditions, operating data, observations, and test results accurately.
- Make process adjustments as needed in coordination with senior chemists and engineers.
- Perform routine and experimental process-development activities.
- Collect, prepare, label, and track samples throughout various stages of the process.
- Perform laboratory and pilot-scale experiments.
- Conduct routine physical and chemical characterization of process materials.
- Assist with bench-scale experiments and sample analysis.
- Set up, operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory and pilot plant equipment.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory/work area.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to set up, operate, and make adjustments to process equipment.
- Experience in a laboratory, pilot plant, chemical processing, process development, or similar technical environment.
- Ability to accurately record operating data and perform basic mathematical calculations.
- Ability and willingness to work non-standard hours and rotating 8-hour shifts during continuous two-week pilot trials.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow established procedures.
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field preferred.
- Experience with continuous chemical or industrial processes preferred.
- Experience with solids suspension, slurry handling, or solid/liquid processing is highly desired.
- Experience with analytical instrumentation such as a particle size analyzer and/or ICP is a plus.
- Ability to work effectively with chemists, engineers, and other technical team members.
